I’ve sustained an injury in Sep. (non-related) and asked them to put my account on freeze in Oct. They sent me their email to their specific store, saying I had to email them with proof, and so I did. They CONFIRMED with me that my account was on frozen for 3 months. On the 10/17 I get a notification from my credit card that Planet Fitness charged me. I figured it was a mistake, but AGAIN next month (11/17), they charge me again. I call up there trying to get the issue resolved, impossible to get ahold of the manager. Finally TODAY (11/26), I’m able to get ahold of him. He wouldn’t give me his regional managers number even though I begged him to, and he basically told me there’s nothing he can do because the employee gave me the wrong information about emailing, and told me I had to come to the office. I told him I couldn’t, due to my broken foot, and it’s not my fault that the employees don’t know the policies. He began asking me personal questions about how do I get around and if I can somehow find someone to take me. After I continuously explained to him that I haven’t been out due to my injury, for the umpteenth time- he hung up in my face. Also, I’ve done this before where my account was frozen earlier in the year, due to a severe eye injury. I had no issues with it the first time, I don’t know why they’re giving me so much hassle now.

**UPDATE: 3 of 4 stair climbers are broken with no indication of repair. This is the equivalent to having 3 broken smith machines out of 4. What really gives here? Owners need to do better because managers and staff don’t control equipment repair schedules or replacements. Equipment needs serious attention. 2-3 of the 4 stair climber are constantly broken the last 2-3 months. Only 4 smith machines usually being used. Too much wasted space with too many outdated ellipticals (gray and purple) that don’t have resistance AND elevation features like the newer ellipticals (purple grey and yellow). Suggest removing the outdated ellipticals as they are hardly used and take up too much floor space. This would allow more stairs and smith machines, like Mableton PF which has 8 stair masters and 8 smith machines! And get the maintenance plan warranty so that the stairs can be repaired more efficiently rather than being out of order for months. It’s a worthwhile investment in your equipment and would keep membership levels up. Currently I hardly come to this gym anymore especially during peak hours because of the limited smiths and broken stairs. Oh and maybe get a cardio rower machine.

It’s frustrating and disheartening—especially when you see the trainer eating American Deli wings and fries instead of focusing on scheduled clients. Overall, Planet Fitness is good for the value, but at this MLK location don’t expect the personal training or scheduled classes to be reliable. I wish I had stayed with my original location. Rating for the trainer’s effort: 1/10.

I'd like to speak to corporate. I had an awful experience with the manager. To add, I asked my question to her while she was arguing with another planet fitness member in the locker. She and her regional randomly threaten to cancel my membership when I approached her to pay my membership in advance. I've been a member for almost a year coming daily with my husband no issues whatsover. and there's more.

Updated with all info below:

  1. A few days ago I was in the shower. When I exited the shower I saw a man in the bathroom area. I screeched and said I don't like for people to see me in a towel. He said it was fine. I then saw that it was the General Manager but I quickly went into the changing station. As the manager left, she shouted I'm a woman very rudely.
  2. Today, I approached the front desk person and said I'd like to pay for next months bill since I haven't updated my banking info yet. He said that I needed to wait for the manager and that he would be in at 9am. I asked him if it was a new manager because I had already met a woman manager. He explained to me that we were talking about the same person and that the manager likes to be referred to as a "him". Ok. I said "I thought that was the case but when I was in the locker room she yelled that she was a "female" when I thought it was a male in the locker". Either way, I was only asking if there was a NEW manager. I wasn't trying to have a transgender conversation at all.

  4. I finish my workout and go into the locker room. That same general manager is in the woman's locker having a heated discussion with another member. I go to where my stuff is and I have a seat like normal. The manager asked me if I needed something and I said I would like to pay my membership for next month. I explain to her that I closed the bank account in April and haven't opened up a new joint marital account yet. She immediately shuts me down. I explain to her that I've paid in person for the past two months. No one that works at planet fitness has told me that I was not allowed to or not supposed to, etc. The person the manager was talking to in the locker initially jumped in confused as to why I wasn't able to make the payment either. The conversation escalates rather quickly. I was completely accepting of what the manager stated. She kept saying "it's at my discretion" which means "it's up to me". She never even answered my question before she called corporate. My question to her was since "it's up to her discretion" can she allow me to pay my husband and my membership for this last month. And if I have to wait until the bill is past due can you do a one-time late fee waiver since I've never had that before."
  5. That is the manager, there is no reason why that couldn't be answered by this person. The manager calls the regional puts her on speaker and all I hear is we are going to have to cancel the membership if there is no payment on file. The manager is saying this also.
  6. Literally nothing has happened but I've had multiple threats of cancelling my manager and this isn't even a serious conversation.
  7. I said why does planet fitness have debit card machines where they accept payment if I can not pay my membership a few days in advance. The manager explains how they sell water bottles, etc. I'm only writing this on here because I'm not okay with how any of this went down, I'm not going to have anyone lie on me so I revealed the full story of events from the other day...

I was a member at this location for 2 years. Had to have surgery,stayed out of the gym for 3 months, but in good Faith I continue to pay my 20 dollar membership while I was down. Just to return to be totally disrespected, then disregarded ,and then had my membership canceled . Merely because an unprofessional child like man that calls himself the assistant manager wanted to be rude towards me. I merely needed to use the ladies room. And could not get my app to check me in . So I had given him my first and last name And also. Explained to him that I could not check in. Then I excused myself To the lady's room , when I returned, he was Very rude and disrespectful towards me. And told me that it didn't matter that I had to go to the ladies room that I needed to check it First I explained to him that I had left the information that was needed and I simply needed to use the restroom. He continued to be disrespectful towards me, so I proceeded to ignore him because I didn't come there to babysit a Grown Man, With a attitude . I continued my workout but when I tried to return the next day, I return to find out that he had concocted some lie, just To be able to justify canceling my Membership! I've never been so humiliated And frustrated while merely trying to be a member at Planet fitness in Adamsville. Yes something this simple Was taken to the extreme. This was not only unprofessional, but it was so uncalled for as I am a Mother, a Grandmother and a Great-Grandmother, so shame on him and his staff and anyone who co-signed this type of Unprofessionalism. So Please take your business somewhere else don't wait to be treated like I was, they are very unprofessional and disregarding and will cancel your membership , simply because they don't like something about you. I didn't know that I was going to the gym to be liked, I thought it was a place of business where you go to Work out, Relax and Recharge your mind, body and soul. We joined your Planet Fitness location here in Atlanta on MLK. We have a LA Fitness membership as well but, thought we’d give PF a try because of the locations convenience to our home. A few months back we were going regularly everyday sometimes twice a day. We took a break and after returning to our surprise you guys had implemented a new regime. You make your members at our location log in every time on all the workout apparatus. I can’t express in words how disturbing this is to me. For one it’s clearly a privacy issue and can be used track my every move which I hate. Not to mention the inconvenience of logging in or carrying my card to each machine. I’ve asked the employees about the protocol and all they can tell me is it’s a trial at this location. I can tell you first hand as a member of this location that I don’t like this process at all. I’d like to know the purpose and duration? I hope you’re not planning to make this a permanent protocol at this location. I also want to tell you that the music selection is in poor taste. It has a lot of cursing and derogatory lyrics. Most of the people working out are not young and, many are senior citizens. I would hope that the playlist can be altered to something much more suitable and diverse. The facility is always clean and, well kept. However, the staff can be very nit picky about every single thing. I look forward to your feedback I also sent an email months ago with this same complaint but, never received a response.
