I recently attended a beginner's class at this establishment and I must state that it is absolutely NOT for those who haven't roller skated in a long time! There were three attendees in the class: two rather-young ladies and then me, a nearly 60-year-old, most certainly the oldest person in the building. After quickly detecting "nervousness" in the atmosphere, the skating instructor (who never introduced herself nor welcomed us) proceeded to instruct us to "walk" in the skates. The younger ladies did a great job doing that (as one would expect), but I had trouble with it. I perceived that the instructor was more interested in assisting the younger crew than me since I was nervously attempting to follow her directions and not doing so well. I felt very uncomfortable because I didn't want to fall and the instructor appeared to be quite annoyed with me which added to my discomfort. She happily continued with the other two students as they moved carefully, but productively to and fro on the floor. Meanwhile, I stood cautiously in those worn rented skates holding onto a wall-mounted personal belongings compartment wondering how to get to the bench to sit down without busting my tail! After a quick word of prayer, the Lord helped me get to that seat, remove those skates and do us ALL a favor by leaving! I'm sure the instructor is good for younger beginners, intermediates and such; however, it seems as though she hasn't much patience for us inexperienced, nervous "Old Timers" who are trying to do something we use to love to do and want to do again. I'm NOT giving up; I will buy myself some skates, practice at home and find a warm, more patient instructor suitable for my needs so I can learn and enjoy this pasttime as I...
Read moreAs a busy mom of 5, I decided to revisit roller skating again because it was something I loved and also a great way to exercise. I signed up for the boot camp for 4 weeks believing this would be a great refresher. After taking their online quiz it pointed me in the direction of the intermediate class at Roller Fit. Unfortunately, both of these were mistakes; everyone has a different teaching style and I can respect that, this one just wasn't from me. The only warm welcome at the initial class I received was from other students, who explained that they all helped each other out. It's great that that type of environment was created. I'll give then kudos for that. My first class wasn't terrible, I just realized the learning curve was out of my range and that I need to refresh on some fundamentals before I could really gain anything from this class and do so safely. I expressed this to the instructor at my second class and she stated, "she was could have told me that from the first class." When I asked if she had any suggestions, "she says she didn't know what to tell me, and that all of the beginner courses were full and that she wished we'd had a conversation prior to this." Well how about at the end of the first class when I came to introduce myself, since you recognized my lack of fundamentals then? My experience was pretty discouraging at best. Other students in the class were able to show more hospitality, teaching ability and provide actual suggestions that were helpful. It would be great if the staff was more customer service oriented. After just 2 classes of a four week boot camp, I did not return. As a business owner, I believe there is a way to treat those who patronize your business and this just...
Read moreLet me start by saying everyone gets to have a bad day.
And until this day I enjoyed your class.
First , lets not ever make any student or paying customer feel as if they aren't deserving the same treatment as others. When I asked you to show me a moved learn a previous week I don't think your response should be "Look at her she is doing it." She isn't my instructor she is here to learn also. I came to learn from a professional. This would have been cool, if this was your response to Everyone. Needless to say it was not. In a class of only 4 on this day your response did not go unnoticed. Thanks to my peers for their encouragement and for their assistance after hearing your response.
So I had to catch instruction when you willingly responded to others request. :( I had to watch/hear you give solicited and UNSOLICITED instructions and encouragement to everyone else in the class, as I was left to my own devices. Not fair, not cool and just not right. I too paid for professional assistance. This treatment did not go unnoticed by my peers. Thanks again ladies. I hope this was just an one off day for you .
I was very upset leaving your class this day and I would have said this to you but you had another class to see about and i wasn't sure if you would have been a willing participant in conversation when you weren't willing instructor on this day. So I cut my loses and wish you success in everything you do. I still hope this can be a teachable moment.
I wish myself some smooth skills on skates. Thanks for lessons I...
