The store does not seem to accept Discover Card. This is the 2nd time I have tried to buy a few items using a Discover Card and the card reader hangs. I avoided this store for about a year, the last time something similar happened even with a debit card. I verified each time later at another store or at the bank that there was nothing wrong with the debit or Discover cards. I ended up going to Walmart to buy the item(s) and using my Discover Card successfully there. I find it suspicious that this has happened twice that the Woodman's card readers did not work or hanged and the customer service was slow in noticing the problem and were not too helpful that I just wanted to verify that the transaction(s) was (were) canceled and I took my business elsewhere. When customer service did come over to attempt to help, the screen stated or asked if I wanted to continue the transaction after 3 or so failed attempts. I told the person "no" I did not want to continue because I was tired of their failed, antiquated system (even when I tried to press a cancel or a back option, the screen was not responsive) and the person or another person pressed "yes" against not respecting my wishes because I was tired of trying to make their difficult and broken machine work properly to make a simple purchase. In the end, the item I wanted to purchase was cheaper anyway at Walmart so it was all for the better not to buy at Woodmans because the machine just hanged making me wait and waste my time here. I may contact Discover to complain about this and have Discover investigate why Woodman's machine did not take the card or its non-responsiveness when using it. I believe another Woodmans in Bloomingdale uses better and updated systems than this one in...
Read moreThe only grocery store chain to stay open 24 hours after you-know-what. Huge store and it's almost all groceries. If there are other things like toys or clothing they take very little space. I find varieties there that I can't find elsewhere. It took a few trips to get to know some aspects to the organization, since certain item types are split into multiple locations or are non-intuitive. I suggested an item when it was fairly new and could only find it at Jewel, and Woodman's started carrying it. Now I can always count on finding it there.
Because of my schedule and preference, I usually shop at night and the checkout staff (self checkout only at night) are super helpful.
My slight problem is that at night they pile rows of boxes right in front of the shelves, prior to actually stocking them. Although they have never been an absolute problem for me reaching what I needed, I do sometimes have to twist and reach...not the safest arrangement and I don't think patrons should be put in a physical position of competing with boxes of goods forming garrisons.
An actual problem I have is that they allow healthy young adults to PLAY on the carts intended for disabled people. I don't think this should ever be allowed to START and I am not sure after 30 minutes (after midnight 1/6/2024) of yelling, racing, nearly bumper car behavior, that it was ever stopped short of the high school age kids getting bored. Definitely not acceptable and a big turn-off, and I doubt a proper manager happened to see this happening as Woodman's is employee owned and I doubt anyone wants insurance costs if the kids would have run into shoppers or some display with lots of jars. Hey midnight management, Cleanup on...
Read moreWoodmanâs is one of those grocery stores that makes you feel like youâve stumbled into a secret level of shoppingâmassive, well-stocked, and impressively organized despite its size. Every time I go, Iâm reminded how much better it is than the average chain store. The selection is huge, from everyday staples to more niche or specialty items that you'd normally have to hunt around for elsewhere.
One of the standout things about Woodmanâs is that itâs employee-owned, and you can tell thereâs a little extra care in how things are run. Prices are fair, often lower than competitors, and the store is kept clean and easy to navigate (once you get your bearingsâdid I mention itâs huge?). Whether youâre doing a big weekly haul or just popping in for a few things, itâs a one-stop shop that rarely lets me down.
Theyâve got everything from fresh produce and meats to a surprisingly robust international foods section, bulk snacks, and an entire separate area for liquor and wine. Parking is always easy, and checkout lanes are usually staffed well enough that wait times arenât bad even when itâs busy.
The only "downside" is that itâs not really a grab-and-go kind of placeâthis is the kind of store you plan a trip to. But if you're willing to spend a little time exploring, Woodmanâs is...
