I am a transplant from Michigan, and have been here almost 10 years. Have been to the Pacific Northwest and had amazing Chinese food, and found that in Austin there is a shortage of good Chinese food. I am used to getting my Chinese food in pints or quarts, and all the egg rolls in Austin are of the small, thin crispy variety, and NObody has pint and quart menus. I totally miss chop suey with bean sprouts and white sauce, Michigan style. Back at home the egg rolls had bean sprouts in them and were big and had a thick chewy/crispy wrapper. I have been missing that. I get that it is American style "Chinese", but don't understand why Austin is so different from the rest of the US when it comes to Chinese food. Even San Antonio has some better choices. I have been trying many places hunting for something that helps with the homesickness for Michigan style Chinese.
Nonetheless, I was pleased to find egg rolls prepared with my favorite wrapper type, and the food was delicious, fast, and fresh. The chicken with mixed vegetables, pepper steak, egg rolls, and egg drop soup were all yummy. My only complaint was that the sauce was a bit too salty, but I would definitely still come back, even though I come all the way from South Austin. This place has Almond Chicken on the menu, and I plan on trying...
Read moreI have moved away to Dallas and it's been almost 2 years but I still crave this place all the time! I still can't find chinese food for the value, quality, and freshness of Little China. I love their hot and sour soup, it's flavorful and has a little bit of a kick to it. Their entrees are made with crispy vegetables, bold flavor, and the sauce is amazing! I eat that sauce with everything, I'd probably drink a bowl of it if I could. Their vietnamese food is also delicious! Try the grilled chicken vermicelli with vietnamese egg roll, it's like a noodle salad with sweet tangy fish sauce, crispy fresh greens, and flavorful meat! I think they make those egg rolls themselves! The lunch rush is crazy sometimes and peak dinner hours of course so I usually go in about 15 minutes before that rush to avoid the wait, but even the wait isn't that long, maybe 10-15 minutes MAX! Everyone is so friendly here also and they also deliver! Definitely try this place out if you...
Read moreWe have been here more than a few times as it is convenient. We live right down the road and we like to have a place like this so close to us. We have tried many dishes here and mostly have not been disappointed.
Favorites are: Chicken and mushroom and Chicken vermicelli bowl. Both are worth the price and both are well seasoned and delicious.
Lunch special: I got the Kung Pao Chicken. Lunch specials are usually smaller than the dinner portion so I expected the amount/quantity I received. The only complaint I have is that there could have been more chicken in it. The fried rice was perfectly cooked. The egg roll - meh.
Combination Lo Mien: The portion is outrageous - lots for the buck! The protein delicious - just wish there was more of the protein.
There is more to try and review which I plan to do. Love the location and the staff is friendly. Food is good. Keep on...
