I stopped by Buddha Burger for a late lunch and was delighted were open at a weird hour. Pulling up, they put a heavy emphasis on 'purity and simplicity', being sure I knew they 'strive not to be the biggest, but the best.' -- Let's find out.
I ordered a double burger with standard toppings (pickle, lettuce, tomato), Cajun fries and an iced tea for a slightly skeptical $21.75. I went without the sauce because personal preference. You do you. The gentleman who took my order was friendly, conversational and a delight. Top-notch service! A quick 10 minutes later, I had my burger in hand.
The iced tea was a lovely mango brew, dark, strong and slightly sweet. I noticed the gentleman was light with ice resulting in more tea for me. Refreshing, delicious and perfect. No notes.
At unwrap, I noticed the burger was a bit on the small side. Two smash patties and minimal toppings resulted in a narrow package. First bite, the burger was juicy and tender. The beef was really well seasoned, hot and fresh. Nothing frozen here. The toppings were unremarkable with exception of pickle. The sliced pickles were delightfully crisp with a garlic/dill flavor that screamed 'hand made'. I'd eat a whole jar of these! I need more! -- As I continued to eat, I noticed everything started to come unraveled. Beef was starting to fall everywhere as the bun slowly degraded into a mess. A stronger beef binder would fix this issue along with a heavier / toasted bun.
Let's talk about the Cajun Fries. These bad boys are awesome. Thick cut, hot and fresh, these transcended potatoes are dusted with an addictive smoky/spicy blend that had me licking my fingers after each one. The serving was very generous and I'm grateful.
All-in-all, I left satisfied with my meal. The burger was delicious if not a little lacking in construction. The price was somewhat steep for what I got but inflation these days is a kick in the nuts anywhere. The badass fries and ample tea make up for it. -- I'm looking forward to trying their chicken with a...
Read moreIf you're a fan of Big Macs, then you will LOVE the Big Buddha! All of the ingredients are much fresher than McDonald's, and it actually comes out looking like a burger you see on TV rather than a soup sandwich! While the burger was excellent, the thing that really won me over was how friendly the staff were. The person working came out to check on me a couple times to see how I was liking it, and to see if I needed anything. He even refilled my sweet tea for free! Definitely not the kind of service you regularly get at a food truck! Lastly, I'll comment on the Sweet Tea and onion rings. If you're looking for a Texas Style sweet tea, this definitely isn't it. It tastes like ACTUAL tea rather than just sweet. I personally wasn't too fond of the onion rings, but they weren't bad, I just prefer a lighter breading than what they had. BTW, try their cookies, apparently they're homemade and a family recipe and they are...

The food is always fresh and delicious, Angus beef ground daily, and the cookies are from scratch, and tasty.
The Big Buddha is moist, well balanced in flavor (not too salty), fresh, delicious, and pairs perfectly with the Cajun French fries... and wash it all down with their daily rotation of fresh tea, lightly infused with flavors such as blueberry or raspberry.
So glad to welcome this business to this area of Austin, bringing a feeling of community and kindness, and cooking a fantastic dish with good...
