My boyfriend took me to The Upstairs for an anniversary dinner. When we got there, the male bartender downstairs was very personable and helpful. He told us to look around at the artwork and pick where we would want to sit. I was excited!
Then we went upstairs. We were met by a league of cold service. We did not get to pick where to sit nor did we get to continue to look at the artwork. So we sat down and had two servers, because one was in training. There was nothing special about the service. She did her job, but did not try to talk with us personally and did not offer us warmth. It was a very cold and dry experience.
We looked on the menu and there were not a lot of options; this is normal for an upscale restaurant. But almost every chicken option had seafood in or on it. My boyfriend and I do not like seafood so this was disappointing. We could have asked for it off, but that would have taken away a large portion of the meal for the same price. We both ordered the New York Strip steak. They were ordered at medium-well and mine came out a little more medium. But other than that, the food was okay, just not spectacular for a $25 steak, potatoes, salad, and bread. The house moscato wine was the best part about this place. $4.50/glass and it was delicious!
The biggest complaint that I have about my experience going to the Upstairs is the noise. We were trying to enjoy a quite, romantic evening together and the servers crowded around the bar gossiping. We heard all about a server's tramp stamp and how Chipotle and Panera Bread do not have good service. That was ironic. Also, there is a jukebox on the wall when really I feel like only classical music should be played. I don't want One Direction, Demi Lovato, or any other singer interrupting a special evening with blaring music.
Overall, I was uncomfortable with the experience and did not receive the high class of service as was expected. The food was lacking for the price and if I wanted to go to a bar and hear gossip and loud music,...
Read moreWhile the dining experience is pristine and enjoyable, I cannot say the same about the management. After attempting to respectfully leave their position, a former employee was completely avoided forcing them quit over non-face-to-face methods and receive unnecessary repercussions. Their check that was allegedly mailed (to the wrong address as well) prior to them picking it up was only found to bounce over a week later once it was finally retrieved. This placed extra fees onto the bank account of mentioned ex-employee and any attempts to resolve the issues resulted in blocked numbers, ignored voicemails, and petty, disrespectful attitude for "being rude". It wasn't until legal action was threatened that a return call was offered and the only extra compensation for all wasted time and effort was an extra $10 to cover the bounce fee. I will not mention the manager responsible, although she knows this is in regards to her. Be wary if ever seeking employment from this establishment and I hope this is not a custom tradition or response to inconvenient employment...
Read moreI cannot say enough good things about Joe and his staff. Joe was hands on in overseeing that everything was exactly where it was supposed to be. We reserved the downstairs hall for my mom's surprise party and it was perfect! At some places, one food item outshines the others. This was NOT the case. Everything was absolutely delicious!! So good that our guests were asking for menus on their way out. I would strongly recommend using them for your next gathering. You can't go wrong with any of their food and the service was top notch!! It says something about a restaurant when the owner and staff are truly sincere in making you feel like you are family. Even though we were a smaller party, they really made us feel like we were their only priority on a Friday night, and dedicated their time to make sure we had...
