As a local small business owner I really hate feeling the need to write this review.
Unfortunately, I cannot trust acadia woods. I was eager to get my young husky into their daycare, as it seemed a great fit for his high energy, and my work schedule.
My fault for not asking the right questions, I can admit that. I can also admit that my husky doesn't understand boundaries with other dogs and can want to force play onto them.
The issues are:
I was told my husky bit another dogs eye. I challenged this as another staff member had informed me earlier in the day it was another dog. The owner checked, and apologized. Luckily, one staff had already shared this story, as while training and socializing a young husky, the accuracy of information received is critical.
One staff member informed me he was pushing the owner to purchase cameras, as he has no clue what they're doing in daycare for corrections when dogs misbehave. This staff member has been extremely helpful, but I'm sure he wasn't aware how that statement sounds.
This was incredibly challenging to hear, given that I've been working with a great professional trainer that my young husky loves. After a day at daycare, and an overnight stay at Acadia Woods, my husky attacked his trainer unprovoked out of fear when she tried to put his leash on. This was incredibly startling as he has never shown this aggressive behavior.
We had a behavioral specialist work with him, and came to the conclusion that some inappropriate "corrections" may be the culprit.
I cannot say for sure, but after the staffs statement showing concern for their own corrections possibly being used and a lack of cameras, I'm left to speculate...which in itself should not be the case.
1 day I dropped off for daycare, the staff left him in a kennel all day because they "didn't even realize he was there".
Heir daycare has outgrown itself, per the owner. Its a small space, with 1 employee to 16 dogs. That ratio itself is concerning.
I have no idea after many conversations of they have any actual certified training. But I don't believe so, and that's not the impression I should have. It should be known. And I regret not asking at first.
To be transparent, I did try on multiple occasions via email and phone to reach the owner to discuss before posting. Staff said they would leave notes, but it's become abundantly clear communications lack between the staff.
I hope they take this review as genuine concern and hopes for...
Read moreJennifer and Holly were fantastic and helped make our trip to Acadia go smoothly. We brought our two dogs along for a two week stay in Bar Harbor, but unfortunately our accommodations didn't allow pets. So the owner of the cottage we rented recommended Acadia Woods Kennel, and we were not disappointed. We mostly picked the dogs up in the morning and took them places, then dropped them back off in the afternoon, except for a few days when we left them there all day. Jennifer and Holly were great with our family coming and going throughout our vacation there, and they took great care of our dogs. When one of our dogs got bit by something on one of our hikes, Holly called up her vet for us, just as a precaution. She also bathed and cleaned them up for us the day before we drove home. We weren't sure how it would all work out, since it was the first time we'd taken our dogs along on a vacation, but Acadia Woods Kennel ended up being a perfect solution. We'd definitely...
Read moreMy dog was whinning while walking him out, both inside the building and all the way until we got to where we were staying. Also, my dog drank 3 bowls of water and 4 cups of food when he got back from this kennel. He was a sad pup! Keeping in mind my dog is a very easy going and friendly Golden Retriever. I was not impressed. I will not be taking him here again.
Edit: We were called by the owners? at 730 in the morning the day after having our dog stay there to edit our review. It has been edited, but stays the same we will not be taking him there again and strongly...
