I love bbq and I love to sample the local interpretations of bbq wherever I go. I arrived with great anticipation and I love the outdoor seating so my small dog could accompany us. The wait staff was super friendly so it set the stage for very nice evening meal.
Upon reviewing the menu, I found that bbq essentially meant pork. I'm from the Midwest so beef also plays a huge role in bbq, but I could get over myself and we set out to try the ribs and pulled pork. As for sides, well Bbq Baked Beans are an essential staple and we also had potato salad as well as the jalapeno cornbread.
First up I always sample the sides and the beans looked delicious with some jalapenos and sausage chunks. I found the beans to be quite delicious...very well done! Next was the potato salad which was a substantial letdown. It appeared to be mustard based due to the yellow color, but upon sampling it had no taste. No mustard, no salt, no redeeming qualities. Even my wife who is satisfied by minimal seasoning said it was super bland...did not finish. Liked the cornbread and really enjoyed combining it with the beans.
Then on to the smoked meats...first my ribs, while quite tender were lacking in depth of flavor. I didn't get much smoke flavor or seasoning. It did seem to have a hint of charcoal flavor so it made me question just what kind of smoking was performed on the ribs. The pulled pork was also very tender and juicy. My wife seemed to like it, but I found it to be again without a depth of flavor I expect from bbq. Definitely a "meh" from me, but it was better than the ribs. I guess I'm going to have to stay away from Maine bbq and stick to the seafood.
If your idea of bbq is a gas grill on the back deck then I'm sure you will enjoy this place. But if you love KC or Texas bbq then explore other options.

Read moreWe received a great tip from a couple who had frequented this restaurant that I would like to pass on to future patrons "As a couple, order the sampler to split. Only rookies order one for each person!" Wow were they right! The sample included pulled pork, ribs, chicken, sausage, baked beans, cole slaw and potato salad. And I'm not just saying samples of those meats. There was a full italian sausage, at least 1/2 pulled pork meat, half of a chicken breast, and a half slab of ribs! Each of the sides were at least a half of a cup. It was almost more food than both my husband and I could conquer!! (Oh, and the meal came with corn bread!) And every morsel was delicious. To add to this amazing meal was the blueberry soda! YUM! I believe this soda was brewed on the spot, and it rocks. My favorite part of this dinner: the sampler platter was only fifteen bucks. Hands down the cheapest meal we had on MDI. And one of the very best!! After enjoying our meal at Mainly Meats, we headed over for the brewery tour and tasting at Atlantic Brewery (same owners, next door). The tour was exceptionally crowded and I didn't hear much of what he said, but from what I could hear the young man giving the tour did seem very excited and knowledgeable about the products and how they're made. It was very interesting to hear and see what a small building can produce!! The brew tasting was very much our favorite part of the tour. With five beers to try and two sodas, it lasted quite awhile and was so much fun. I discovered I am NOT an IPA person, but I loved their blueberry ale! If you like beer at all, even just a little, this stop is...

We had an amazing experience at Mainely Meat BBQ. We ordered the Brisket Dinner, Max Plate, and an extra pound of brisket. The meat was perfectly smoked—tender, juicy, and packed with great flavor. Both the sweet and hot BBQ sauces were excellent and really complemented the meats.
The sides were equally impressive and well-balanced. We enjoyed baked beans with sausage, creamy coleslaw, and delicious potato salad. The portions were generous, which was perfect for our party of six, including two young men with hearty, meticulous appetites!
For drinks, they offer products from Atlantic Brewing Company, including Blueberry Ale, Real Ale, Brother Adam’s Honey Bragget, House Flight, and a refreshing Strawberry Rhubarb Margarita. They also had a tasty blueberry soda for the minor in our group. Every drink was marvelous—the IPA was especially memorable with its fragrant, sophisticated, and slightly sweet flavor.
Highly recommended for great BBQ, excellent drinks, and satisfying portions! We’ll...
