This place has been going through a difficult time over the past year or so, with several of the bigger name stores pulling out of the mall. Notably among these was Sears, one of the original anchor stores since the shopping center first opened. All this turnover, with several stores remaining closed and empty for what seems like a fairly lengthy period of time have given the mall a bit of a forlorn look. When I last visited the WPM, it seemed like the only other non-store employee people I saw were a few small groups and individual mallwalkers, which made it feel (to me anyway) almost like a ghost town. Now I have seen articles in the local newspaper as well as signs on and around the property announcing the arrival of several new stores. This, I'm sure, will help to restore some of the vitality which the mall previously enjoyed. And hopefully these store arrivals signal a trend that will continue into the future, for I know that Washington Park Mall plays am important role in the lives of many people, not just in Bartlesville but also in the many, smaller communities and rural areas around and outside of B'ville - some coming there from as far away as Southeastern Kansas and...
Read moreVery sad. Once thriving and beautiful mall is dying at an alarming rate. 20 active stores, 25 vacant storefronts (mostly large ones!). 3 of the 20 open shops are rarely even open or have very limited hours of operation. 95% of the people in the mall are only there to walk laps. I have no idea how any of the stores make any money at all (with the exception of Dillard's and Dunham's). I would be stunned if the mall is still open a year from now. New management is needed immediately! Mall leaks when it rains and the tile throughout the mall needs to be replaced... Definitely...
Read moreThis mall has taken the shift in consumer spending exceptionally hard. Malls, like this one, have been dying since the invention of online shopping.
There are only a few stores left in this place. Dillard's, Dunhams, Bath and Body, Game Stop, mma gym, theater, hair and nail salons, and a random store or two are all that's left.
This mall was the go to place when I was a kid. It's a shame what it has become. I know the businesses aren't lining up to rent brick and mortar stores right now, but there must be some way to keep this place going. Best of luck getting it...
