Tate Boys — Local services in Bartlesville

I had high hopes for this shop, but my experience ended up being frustrating from start to finish.

When I arrived, no one acknowledged us for several minutes. I had to approach the counter three separate times, each time standing awkwardly with no greeting or eye contact. It felt like the staff didn’t want to engage — and I noticed other customers receiving the same indifferent treatment.

I was quoted $25 per tire over the phone for installation, and I made it clear I would be bringing my own tires. But after the work was done, I was charged $35 per tire instead. When I asked why, the employee told me there’s a higher rate if you don’t buy tires from them — something that was never mentioned during the initial call. This ended up costing me $40 more than expected.

The delays were another issue. The car wasn’t ready until hours after the time I’d been told. And when I picked it up, I immediately noticed a grinding sound and some drag when driving. I brought it to their attention. At first, the employee was defensive, but eventually agreed to check it. They found that the dust shield on the left front wheel had been bent into the rotor. They adjusted it and said it wasn’t their fault. The noise seemed gone at first, but I later realized it returned whenever I turned right.

I live almost two hours away, and unfortunately, I won’t be coming back. Between the lack of basic customer service, the surprise charges, and the unresolved mechanical issues, this was one of the most disappointing auto shop visits...

Tate Bros has earned my business by going above and beyond each time I have had tire or alignment issues. When I moved to B’Ville in 2022, Tate Bros fixed my leaky tire for “no charge” which is normally a &15-20.00 charge, at any other business. Next, I had my pickup front end checked for alignment and there was no charge, as the alignment was within specs…and was peace of mind for me. They were honest in telling me everything was excellent…and could have charged again for their time and trouble. This was the second time they went above and beyond! Today, the third time I have had the pleasure to do business with Tate Bros on 02/01/2023 they quoted an excellent price for 2 tires that I needed for the the rear. The price was better than Amazon or Walmart…and they had both tires in stock. On a tire dealer online there was going to be an additional shipping fee of $25 per tire, then pay over $30 per tire for installation. For all these reasons, Tate Bros has my business for being more than fair with service, prices and courtesy. I grew up working in my Dad’s gas station and I haven’t seen this level of service since I worked for my Dad and saw his honesty of doing the right thing,,,with service and going above and beyond with our customers…but that was 50 years ago. Bartlesville is blessed to have Tate Bros watching after your tire and maintenance needs. These guys are the real deal! If you want fair…trust these guys! Ken Kliewer-satisfied...

I just had a very frustrating experience at the Tate Boys on Washington Blvd! Consistently when we bring our Nissan NV in for an oil change and tire rotation we leave Tate Boys only to find that the tire pressure monitoring system has not reset properly and the vehicle thinks the front tires are in still in the back and the back ones in the front. This is a problem because tire pressures on this vehicle are set differently in the front and back so our vehicle shows low tire pressure notifications. We always have to take it back in to get it corrected, and it always takes just a few minutes.

Today, I asked them when I dropped the vehicle off to make sure to reset it properly before we picked up the vehicle. When I arrived and paid, I was assured at the front desk that everything was set correctly. However, after driving away for a few minutes, the low tire pressure notifications came on. Frustrated, I turned around and went back. When I arrived, the shop manager informed me there was nothing they could do to help me.

Despite the previous issues with not getting the TPMS reset correctly, my positive experiences receiving service and buying tires there had led me to be a consistent customer. This experience will...
