May, 2023 - Disappointed in WP Commissary today. First, their entire selection of Bob's Red Mill products was gone and replaced by extra paper towels and cleaning supplies. No sign directing me to another aisle, so not sure whether those products have been relocated to a place I didn't see, or just... gone. Second, after asking for and receiving permission from the cashier to bag my own groceries, I was interrupted by a pushy female bagger who stepped up beside me and started throwing my groceries randomly into one of my bags. I said, "No thank you, I'm bagging my own groceries". She kept on. I said, "No thank you, I do not want help". She kept on. I said, "Would you please stop!?", but she didn't. I felt livid. I feel I have the right to bag my own groceries. The Commissary has respected this preference for the past couple of years. I don't know what got into that lady bagger today, but I definitely don't want to experience it again. Commissary sales are plummeting. They struggle to compete with a plenty of large, clean, well stocked and competitively priced civilian grocery stores here, and most often when I shop the commissary, cashiers and baggers are standing around idle because of so few customers. When we came into the Air Force 40+ years ago, the commissary was a valued and valuable benefit. In 2023, it is much less so. Behavior such as I experienced today will only hurt their chances of holding onto the meager clientele that have left. Three stars.
UPDATE, June 2023 - Commissary has recently completed a major reset. While it is always challenging to find your favorite stuff after a grocery store rearranged everything, I think overall, this reset is an improvement. The area looks bright and clean. Commonly sought items are at eye level and displays seem neater and more logically arranged than they were before. I do wish they had not halved the size of the bakery and dairy spaces to introduce displays of wine and beer. Since the Base Exchange Class 6 store already offers alcoholic beverages across the parking lot, I fail to see the advantage of removing/reducing dairy and bread items in the Commissary to duplicate those items in a grocery store. Also, an entire side of one aisle is devoted to MRE's. Seriously? How many people in this community buy enough MRE's to have this make sense? For improvements made during...
Read moreUsed to be such a great place for young military troops on a budget and retirees. However, the almighty dollar and individual power trips has ruined that too. No longer can a young airman purchase items like beef jerky for $0.65 a stick like they could a year ago; (Oberto) I think it was. Slim Jim and others ran them out at 3x, to 4x the price. How about a burrito for lunch? Used to be able to get three small Patio frozen burritos for a dollar, $0.33 each when the commissary stopped carrying them about two years ago. Now the cheapest one is almost $3. Could go on and on. Politics and power has taken over providing for troops and their families. Is it any wonder military families can shop cheaper at Walmart? Over 22 years active duty and now I understand why the commissary has made themselves meaningless, and why congress wants to cut them. Another military tradition going away, and sadly I understand why. Someone needs to put the troops first in actions,...
Read moreStore is fairly nice but the parking lot is ridiculous. Several empty spaces right up front for officers but handicap parking is most times a long walk to the far end of the store then a long walk to the other end to get to self check out. Insufficient handicapped parking while another 4 parking spaces are reserved for Quick ALERT or something that’s never used. Cigarettes used to be conveniently located behind the Express Checkout. Now, they are located halfway down the store. When you go to any checkout now for cigarettes they have to walk down to another clerk, tell her what you want. She will have to unlock the cabinet to get the cigarettes and then bring them to the checkout. A lot of wasted time and manpower because some new person felt like they had to make some changes for the sake of making some changes! Ridiculous. The parking lot is the biggest cluster for the...
