My family and I have been going to pretty much every asian market in and near Baton Rouge for the extent of my life. Each of them has their pros and cons and we go to them each typically for something specific. Of them, this newest market has probably the largest, most organized, and most diverse collection of items available.
That is NOT to say you can find every item you'll find at the other markets here nor that the prices will be cheapest here. If you're looking for central and eastern Asian items, this will hands down be your best option for the price and variety. The employees are quick and courteous, extremely professional, and they tend to keep the place extremely tidy.
People who are not so comfortable in small, family owned establishments will find plenty of space to examine any number of food items, appliances, bowls, plates, houseware, fresh meat, baked goods, seafood, and produce here. The owners are Taiwanese if I understand correctly so you'll find some cultural differences in the way that they run their business than Vietnamese markets but do not let that intimidate you.
I notice a lot of non-asian customers during my visits are primarily focused on Korean and Japanese products of which they have a fairly wide variety (though some things you may have more luck finding at the small Korean market near LSU); several snacks and drinks are often rotated depending on availability and the season. If you can locate it here it will very likely be cheaper than ordering the same items...

Kind of new to Baton Rouge and coming from New Orleans where I would go to HONG KONG Food Market this place is small. It was small but very clean and organized. I went to get some Kewpie and found it in one of the refrigerators in the back for $5.99 (17oz). When I enter the store I said Good morning as I always do whenever I enter any space and the cashier just looks and didn't say anything. One of my pet peeves is greeting at a store and the employees not saying nothing back. I looked around for a while and many items caught my interest but, had NO idea what they were or used for so I didn't purchase. Another thing is I HATE is feeling like I'm being watched, like if I was going to steal or something 😒. I'll give that store another chance and if it happens again I will never spend money there again, I would buy elsewhere. Wish they would have some type of translation on all items in store and NOT just some. I wanted some NORI but, there was too many to pick from that ended up NOT purchasing. Very overwhelming when you don't understand the language. Went for KIMCHI but they only had spicy. Overall all its a good store with...
Read moreI've been hearing about this place from a buddy of mine but had never went there because it was out of my way. After watching several episodes of "Street Food" on Netflix, I couldn't put it off any longer so I went for a visit. It was incredible! I had a vague recollection of some of the noodles and Japanese snacks from my childhood from when the parents of our two Japanese exchange students would send boxes of goodies. The first aisle I walked down was 100 feet of all the noodles and seaweed and wasabi based snacks I could ever imagine! I ran out of time because I walked in so close to closing time, and I wasn't able to really piece together the right ingredients to make any of the things I was wanting to make. That was only because I didn't know what I was looking for and I couldn't read the labels very well. So if there was one thing I would wish for, it's that whenever some non-asian looking dude is wandering around with a grin on his face but doesn't really look like he knows what he's looking for, please offer to help the guy find what he needs to make a meal or two.
I...
