this is a great venue and my friends and i had an amazing time at emo night last night. my only complaint is that the parking lot, 75% of which is random concrete under an overpass, has NO security of any kind. i didn’t even see any security inside the venue (i’m hoping there were maybe some plainclothes bouncers/security that i just wasn’t aware of). baton rouge is by no means the safest city, so having zero security is definitely a hazard, especially in such a secluded and dark parking area. even just hiring some big muscular guys who pass a background check to monitor the area would be a good idea. when my friend and i left at around 11:30, there was a guy asking everyone for money in the parking lot, which wouldn’t even be a problem to me if there was ANYONE in the parking lot that was there to make sure people are safe. you just never know what could happen. girls, definitely do not drive here by yourself. the parking that isn’t under the bridge fills very quickly. also, my friend was followed home from an apartment nearby all the way to prairieville when i dropped her off at her car after. i know security at chelsea’s wouldn’t be able to do anything about that, but it goes to show the area that this is in and that you never know what can happen. i really hope this place invests in security soon, because i know many other girls with similar complaints, and i would hate to hear about something terrible happening to someone under that bridge. i hate to see people being scared to come here, and i’m now feeling hesitant myself. like i said, i had an amazing...
Read moreRevising and updating the Chelsea's brand in the Nation Rouge ecosystem is a big swing. As a restaurant and a live music venue with a decidedly funky hippie vibe, Chelsea's was a warm, hospitable space for comforting food, authentic music, late nights and good times. Chelsea's moved around a bit over the decades, thanks to Baton Rouge's deformed real estate market until it disappeared entirely. The Chelsea's vibe was updated at the Mid- City Beer Garden and some of the legendary food menu returned. All well and good. But the Chelsea's name, now "Chelsea's Live" is a large room with an excellent sound and light rig for a commodious stage to frame local talents and major national (and international!) performers. The staff is great, across the board. The space includes seating and tables. The bars are large, well staffed and feature free water dispensers which is extremely civilized. I've enjoyed almost everything about my time on site. I will quibble a tiny bit over an air conditioning system that struggled (and failed) to keep the environs tolerable at a well- attended heavy metal show Saturday night (8/27/2022). A little inspect and repair/replace would make the scene a hard 5 stars. I am very grateful for the Baton Rouge music scene and am very happy to welcome Chelsea's Live to...
Read moreI have been to Chelsea’s many times, many of which with my Service Dog in attendance. On Saturday June 29th I was rudely confronted at the door telling me that Chelsea’s policy does not allow for Service Animals. After informing the manager JP that the policies and laws created by the US Government under the Americans with Disabilities Act out rule Chelsea’s policies. ADA states that “ service animals are allowed to be with their person, even in places that don’t allow pets.” Meaning my task trained medical equipment is allowed at the Chelsea’s Live Venue. He proceeded to hassle me about my medical equipment. Saying that if she causes a disturbance by doing things such as “barking or jumping” she would be removed. The disturbances that he listed are often tasks used by Service Dogs to alert their handler of an on coming medical episode. ADA states that “ if a dog barks just once, or barks because someone has provoked it, this would not mean that the dog is out of control.” meaning the dog can not be removed.” The actions of JP the manager on duty during EMO night were incredibly ableist, illegal, and disgusting. I will also be filing a complaint...
