Their front doors are kept open while the store is open - I guess they are broken. Therefore, the temperature inside the market is very, very warm. NONE of the employees were wearing a face mask, most importantly, no one in the meat dept. was wearing a face mask. Also, the food displayed in the "food to go" dept. looked old. They had an aluminum foil tray on a countertop filled with one plastic bag of corn tamales , I guess for customers to just grab and go. That has to be against food temperature sanitation rules since they looked warm due to the steam building up in the bag. That was very unsanitary. I saw that and looked at the hot food behind the glass display and lost my appetite completely. Very gross. For the store being in the state capital, you'd think they would follow the governor's orders for all businesses dealing with the public to have employees wear a face mask. There were a lot of fruit flies in the produce dept. That is very unhygienic. I've gone to their other store in Scott, LA, and that place is kept clean and cool. I was very disappointed with the lack of quality control of this supermarket. What was interesting is that they require customers in the check out lanes to follow social distancing rules yet not a single employee was wearing a mask. This was on Sunday, June 28th, 2020. Several customers wore masks. I will never return to this store again - it is kept too hot inside, lots of fruit flies in the produce dept (which will come home with you), and it is unkempt all round. I'm Mexican American and I was very disappointed with this store. It's like the owners don't give a damn about this store. Guess I'll be going to another competitor's latin market. Don't bother shopping here....
Read more3rd and final review. I won't be back. If you are not Hispanic, you will get zero customer service, even in Spanish. They all freeze up. Look, man, if y'all are this uncomfortable, Baton Rouge is not the place to be that way. We have coexisted, lived, thrived, intermingled and married into French, Spanish, Native, Irish, African and other peoples for hundreds of years. We are all family, and we are glad to welcome and support this business, but y'all act like you don't want it. Very much a shame. I hope you will change in the future because based on these comments, I'm not the only one who sees it.
This is my 2nd time giving them a chance. They're just icy here and the employees found things to look at in the sky, on the ground, through me and around me to not speak to me. Puedo hablar Español y Inglés. The Chiles rellenos at the food court are really greasy and unseasoned. Great prices on fresh, beautiful...
Read moreFirst off, when I walked in, I did not feel a welcoming environment. I was stared at an though, " Was I the first Black person to walk in?" I had seen the store but felt no need to go in, I am not a Mexican cook, but I love the food😍🤤 My church, order this huge spread. The food was so fresh and so good it was like Wow, let me go get me a plate dinner oneday soon- Even told other friends about it.. So I come! I stood waiting to be waited on, greeted or something, nothing! When one of the workers finally ask me what I needed, I could see clearly that she could not speak English well. I kinda pointed to what I wanted. Her phone ring she answered it, it was not a distressing call, casual. She just walked off never raised a finger to say one moment, we all understand that motion. I took my ...
