I met with two other ladies here for lunch for what we agreed was an awkward dining experience.
The door was locked at 12:30 (11 is the stated opening time) so the one staff person let us in. She didn't instruct us to place an order or have a seat. She didn't speak much, but understood our orders fine and was very polite. I'm not sure if we were the first customers, as it took a while for the technology to boot up so we could place the order. 2 other tables eventually joined.
Although we were able to finish the meal within a 1 hour lunch break, it was a little tight since it took a while for the food to be delivered.. again, there was only one staff person.
All of the seating was cramped in together to maximize the open floor area, so that we had to push the table out and over for a standard size space. For more than half the hour, the TV was on with nothing on display. After the 3rd tables joined, the TV came on too loud with Arabian music playing the rest of the visit. No towels or drying machine were available after washing hands in the restroom.
Great reviews and proximity to my friend's work brought us here. There were a number of dishes on this menu not found at other Middle Eastern restaurants. All the food was good I really enjoyed a new favorite: cold carrot salad.
I might consider takeout from the restaurant if I'm in...
Read moreWe ordered the T&G Mixed Grill. The food was not as good as we had expected. The chicken and lamb shish kebabs were ordinary, the kofte was very hard and the grilled jalapeno and tomato were still cold, even after grilling. The only thing we liked was the rice it smelled and tasted good. The atmosphere was not dine in friendly, especially considering the prices, which are comparable to other top local restaurants.
Now, about the service. We arrived at the restaurant at 3:15 pm and waited for five minutes, but no one came to take our order. My friend had to go to the counter to place it. After us, three more tables full of customers placed their orders, and their food was served before ours. After waiting for 30 minutes and seeing everyone else being served, my friend went to the counter to ask what was going on. Instead of responding politely and explaining the delay, the man at the counter rudely shouted, "This is not McDonald’s you have to wait." I was about to leave after hearing this but couldn't, as my friend insisted as he wanted to taste the food for the first time. Later they served the food at 4:10 pm, 50 mins after placing order.
I have never seen any restaurant behave this rudely toward paying customers. That was our first and last time there. We went with high hopes, but they were crushed rudely and by...
Read moreWe stopped in here the Tuesday before Thanksgiving and the service was top notch. The owner was by himself and was getting ready to close early to head out for Thanksgiving. He did not know that my friend and I were on a road trip from Atlanta to San Antonio, but when we walked in two minutes before he closed he was more than happy to serve us. All he requested was that we lock the door behind us. We had been driving seven hours and made the decision to try this place on a fuel stop in Hattiesburg, MS. I am grateful that he decided to feed us because we were starving and had another 7.5 hours of driving ahead of us. The food was spectacular, the Kofta kebabs were delicious, some of the best I've ever had, and the shawarma was just as good. I am not sure what he did to the Greek salad, but it was some of the best we have ever tasted, and even the side of rice was fluffy and perfectly seasoned. I am not sure if or when we will be back in Baton Rouge, but if we are, we will definitely be stopping here again. For those of you lucky enough to live in the area, please run out and try this food. On top of it all, he was very personable, smiling and more than happy to accommodate us. It made a LONG...
