We just moved here and stopped by to check out the selection. First, the lady working there was awesome. She was really nice and even spent a lot of time telling us about living in Baton Rouge after we told her we are new here. Second, I was really impressed with their selection and prices. Iâm Asian American and lived in big cities and small towns. In my experience Asian shops in places like Baton Rouge that do not have a huge H-mart either have a limited selection of nothing or charge you an arm and a leg for everything. There is absolutely no price transparency: items have no price tags, and the receipt doesnât break down the cost of each item. I ended up paying over $40 for just five items that cost half as much at other Asian grocery stores nearby.
The lack of upfront pricing and inflated costs is deceptive and predatory. I truly want to support small businesses, especially Asian-American owned ones, but unethical practices like this are unacceptable. Itâs no wonder the store was empty.
