Iâve been going to Reformer Pilates and Gyrotonic classes in Bellevue at Pivot Movement Studio since 2019; Pilates since 2006.
TL/DR: If youâre searching for Reformer Pilates or Gyrotonic classes in Bellevue that are welcoming, effective, and actually fun, Pivot Movement Studio is the (crisp and clean) spot.
I could nerd out about this place for daysâso Iâm breaking my review into parts.
This review is for anyone wondering: Whatâs the parking like? Is it clean? Does it feel good to be there? Can I actually do this regularly, or is getting to the equipment the workout?
LOCATION TL/DR: Close to the freeway and major arteries. When I moved from Southern California to the Eastside, I tried to keep my âno more than 5 miles for a workoutâ rule.
Eastside Pilates options laughed at me.
Now I happily drive from Kirkland to Pivot because itâs worth it. In addition to great instructors and multiple class types, the studio offers:
Hassle-free parking (even when Iâm running a bit behind!) Easy accessâpark and youâre in! No door codes No 1,000-step check-in process Proximity to the 520 for added convenience
If youâre juggling work, errands, and family, Pivot fits neatly into my âHoly Trifectaâ routineâeverything I do is on the way to or from Holy Point 1, 2, or 3 (kidsâ school, work, groceries; whatever yours may be).
THE STUDIO SPACE TL/DR: Cool, clean, modernâwithout being pretentious. Warm, like a loving home.
Pivot is light-filled and thoughtfully designed.
Unlike other studios that feel corporate or salesy (with distracting lighting), Pivot is crisp and welcoming.
Call me nerdy, but the apparatus is the decor.
And the art on the walls? Itâs not mass-producedâitâs from local artists because Karen and the team are actually part of the Eastsideâs creative community.
Studio-space highlights include: Beautiful sunrises during early-morning classes Trees and sky viewsâseriously, you pull up expecting a parking lot stare-down, but the way itâs laid out, all of that is below your view. If youâre trying to feel like youâre away from work/your desk, you will! A plug-in vibration plate (which I always tell myself Iâm going to use đ)
Practical Matters Thereâs a water dispenser, but I highly recommend just bringing yours full. The bathrooms have tampons and soap that doesnât leave you feeling like you need all the hand cream ever made. Yesâitâs always clean. And yesâthere are hardwood floors, not that weird gym carpet.
Cleanliness Details: Thereâs a system! Spray bottles with little wash cloths in the reformer extra-goodie boxes A rack with more wash cloths and spray bottles for the Gyro equipment A dirty clothes hamper for used cloths (no chance youâre just moving someone elseâs sweat around!) Instructors who consistently prompt you to wipe down your equipment Patrons who love Pivot and donât need to be asked
Grip Socks Not required* Available for purchase if you want them
(*For me, this is a sign of authenticity. Pilates, yoga, dance... Grip socks arenât about hygiene. Theyâre about liability waivers and pack-âem-in mentality studios with all-level formats.)
Whether youâre looking for Reformer Pilates classes, Gyrotonic sessions, or a friendly Pilates studio in Bellevue that wonât feel corporate, intimidating, or hit & miss depending on the instructor, Pivot checks all the boxes.
If youâve been thinking about trying Pilates or Gyrotonic but feel overwhelmed by options, start here! Youâll find the right class for where youâre atâand youâll actually look forward to coming back.
Speaking of coming back: Iâll be back with notes on class types and instructors (who know how to sequence, cue, and guide you into correct form).
In the meantime, I hope to see you thereâbecause thatâs another thing: they attract the most down-to-earth,...
Read moreAttended the Pilates Reformer Foundations class for the first time at Pivot with Sasi (Tues, 1:30pm) while in Washington through Class Pass and I can say it was a pleasant experience. Check-in was easy (signing a waiver) then changed into my socks with grips. The class started on time, Sasi gave me a quick run down of the reformer and its parts. We then started with breath work and stretches, then we got into it. Sasi was very attentive (total of 3 ppl including myself), encouraging and kind throughout the class. As Iâm new learning Pilates, the class kept small was a huge plus!
The space was clean, beautiful and welcoming.
Although there was construction around, getting there was easy and parking was available, front and behind.
I donât think Pilates is something Iâll go to regularly, maybe here and there, but I do recommend the class for those who want to try it and see if itâs...
Read moreI can't say enough good things about Pivot Movement Studio. I have been attending 1 session per week with Jessica Grady for about 2-3 months now. She is an amazing instructor. Jessica keeps each session fresh, fun, and challenging. I have already noticed how much stronger and balanced I am. I have better control over individual parts of my body and being an equestrian and golfer it is critical to access different parts of my body independently in order to perform at the highest levels of the sport. No matter what your goals are, if you are looking to improve your awareness, balance, strength and a harmonious well being Pivot Movement Studio is the perfect place to achieve your goals. The studio is well equipped with a positive supporting environment. So head on over to get started on your life goals. You won't be...
