We’ve been going to Marshall’s for years. First, for my engagement ring, then subsequent wedding bands. I also had an antique ring cut off my finger and redone. All of this work and the bands were beautiful. I also had my wedding band and engagement ring soldered together to keep from rubbing, again beautifully done.
Fast forward to now. I lost a lot of weight and needed my rings resized and separated as I wanted to wear my wedding band without my engagement ring at times, especially with kids. They took my rings to assess and called me about a day later and said both rings needed to be completely re-built. That all the prongs were worn down and it would crumble if they separated them. I was shocked! I had only had my engagement ring for 10 years and wedding band for 8. They said it would cost about 2k-3k for this. They also said I could just get a new said and it’s common to rebuild Or get a new set every 10 years. Or they said to me “diamonds are forever the setting is not”. I was very upset, It felt like the sentimental value of My rings was not taken into consideration. At one point, I asked if I could use the diamonds in my Wedding band for something, and this is 100% true, was told they are not worth anything and would just be tossed out. Now remember, this is the place that sold, made, and maintained these pieces.
Ultimately, I did some additional research and gathered other opinions. Other, very reputable places gave me a funny look when I asked if they had to rebuild my entire set or if it was going to crumble if they took it apart. One response was, “why would it”? And when I told them that’s what was told to me they had a funny response “maybe they know something I don’t” with a shrug. I ended up getting exactly what I wanted from a different place for under $500 and it’s absolutely beautiful.
I’m not sure if Marshall’s really knew something other places didn’t or if they were just trying to get me to spend thousands, but I do know my rings did not, and have not crumbled and they are extremely valuable to me.

Read moreBuying an engagement ring is a hefty investment I plan on keeping for at least one lifetime, so I made sure I did my research on it before I committed. I reached out and got recommendations on 3 stores: Marshall's, Stardust in Framingham, and Nathan's in Milford. I ended up going with Stardust, and I am very happy with my purchase; but felt Marshall's was so sketchy I need to comment:
Avoiding Taxes: During our phone conversations, the salesman brought up ways I could put more into the ring if I shipped it out of state, since I wouldn't have to pay taxes. Personally I feel if I am spending $15K on a luxury good, I should pay my taxes. Any business owner that suggests I should avoid taxes rubs me the wrong way.
Major Inclusions: I asked all 3 stores to find a 1.75 carat diamond that is clean to the eye, with decent color, decent cut, and faint florescence for $15k. Marshall's brought in 3 diamonds (two 1.5ct, and one 1.75ct diamond). The two 1.5cts are not what I asked for, and I am not sure why he even brought them in. The 1.7ct had a major inclusion that was very noticeable to the naked eye that it was honestly distracting. The salesman tried to blow it off like he didn't see anything until he showed me the GIA certification for that diamond and there was clearly a massive inclusion in the plot. Then, he proceeded to say that is what I would have compromise with spending $15k on a 1.75ct; though Stardust had no issues finding a faint florescence, excellent cut, near perfect color with no inclusions to the naked eye...
A couple good things I wanted to note: Their store was the nicest and most professional inside. -The owner was very knowledgeable and friendly.
Someone else may have a different experience with Marshall's; but I would highly recommend looking around as to not get ripped off. I am very happy I did; my fiance has been telling me she has gotten compliments every day at work for the past 3 months she has had it, and I have no regrets in my purchase having done...
Read moreI went in to Marshall's Jewelers this week to get an engagement ring resized. I bought it online and I just didn't want to pay to send it back to Blue Nile and wait a long time. I just proposed over the weekend so naturally my fiance doesn't want to give up the ring for a couple weeks. I wanted to find a jeweler that did their own work in the same location to expedite the process. I called a Jared's since they too have a shop and they said there would be a 5-day turnaround and that they couldn't guarantee the time-frame. On Tuesday I explained to Mark Burns at Marshall's Jewelers that I would really need the ring back by Saturday so my fiance could show all of her friends over the weekend. Mark Burns made a point of confirming that this was doable with the repair jeweler who works on-site. They confirmed that they could have it done in my time frame. I got a call on Thursday that the ring was completed and available for pickup (2 days later). I cannot see any evidence of a resize/repair on this ring. It looks fantastic. While the resize price was a bit higher than Jared's I recommend Marshall's for any repairs because they seem to be the only independent shop in the area that does their repairs on-site with a repair jeweler who has MANY years of experience. The ability to work within my time constraints was the most impressive and made me feel like a person rather than a number. They also reassured me that I am leaving with the same diamond I dropped off by writing a very detailed description of the ring on the receipt before and after. Finally, they didn't make me feel bad for deciding to purchase the engagement ring online and were generally interested in why I chose online over in-store. Overall - A fantastic experience. I intend to be back for future resizing/service (just hopefully...
