Great selection, fair prices! Long time customer, even before the secret was out. This little store isn't so little anymore, and they remodeled in a way that strengthened their Latinx roots and doubled down on community. They still have a really good selection of groceries, produce, frozen items, and pantry goods, with the added bonuses of a real-life butcher counter (the pollo marinada and carne asada is the best), an in-house pan dulce bakery (conche!!), and a revamped to-go counter for tacos, burritos, and platos. You can also get staples to go from there, like a quarts of rice and delicious pinto beans. Amazingly easy! The grocery selection includes staples you'd find in any Mexican grocery, along with some smart pulls from the organic set to give Berkeley Bowl a run for their money. The organic produce section has also been about doubled in the last year or so. They offer a huge selection of milks and eggs, but if you're looking for non-mexican cheeses, I'd go elsewhere. They have a few blocks of locally made Sonoma cheeses, but if it's brie or fancy goat cheese or something, sorry, but the Country Cheese Store across the street closed a year and a half ago. Sad face.
Covid 19 update: Everything is clean, well run, stocked, and organized here. Masks are REQUIRED. The take-out option is still available from the cafe, calling ahead to order is best. The line usually isn't that bad unless you go around dinner or lunch time, and even then it's maybe only 10min max. I'd rather shop here than anywhere else,...

Read moreMi Tierra is my favorite family-owned, not-chain grocery store in Berkeley. They have an impressive variety of produce, spices, meats, and more, and not only Mexican and Central American goods, but also South American goods from countries such as Colombia and Peru. The prices are accessible and more affordable than the average in the area, especially given the high quality and cleanliness. I always find everything I need for cooking and baking recipes, and the employees are very friendly and kind. I come here frequently, and I was heartbroken to see today that one of their glass window doors was broken into, so I hope that even more residents can come by and support this...
