Sweet Bites Bakery and Brunch — Restaurant in Berkeley

The best cake shop in East Bay and one of two best dessert shops in the Bay Area.

My Background: I run a restaurant and am very selective in the food I consume including sugar lol. I am very picky about ingredients and ratios and cook food from scratch. I don’t like too much sugar added to cakes and desserts. Desserts need to seduce your tongue and expose flavors that makes you wanting more without a heavy feeling of a sugar high. I rarely give reviews unlike local guides who either highly rate every place (easy to impress) they visit or provide low ratings most of the time (probably their personality).

Sweet Bites team: Kiara, her Mom (the master chef) and daughter are fantastic and sweet. Their place has been designed and decorated by Kiara who is also a Mural artist and a really good one. There are so many little personal touches in their joint which makes it special.

My experience: I’m from NY, and I love Bruno bakery. One of my favorite cakes is Favori mousse cake, made out of hazelnut and chocolate.

I had my wife’s birthday yesterday and requested Kiara and her mom to make me a cake similar to that with very short notice. While the taste was not the same, their cake is in a league of their own! It was perfectly balanced, we could taste all the nuances and flavors. They also went above and beyond as I had requested them to make another cake for my 2 kids (dogosapiens) who cannot eat chocolate and wanted it to be sugar free with no harmful chemicals. I ate some of that cake too as it was just that good. Flavors of strawberry and vanilla melted in my mouth.

Overall, my wife, mom, my kids and I enjoyed the cakes and would recommend folks who visit Berkeley or live here to try them out. The pics don’t do justice to the cakes we...

Sweet Bites has become a beloved part of our family celebrations, and just because indulgences.

This family owned business is the sweetest with exceptional customer service, a gorgeous interior to dine in or sip on anything from a smoothie to a mimosa, and beautiful custom cake services, with options to accommodate all sorts of dietary allergies and restrictions (nuts, gluten, dairy, eggs, etc.)

They’ve helped us create birthday cakes more imaginative and delicious than we could have imagined (mango tres leches, a lemon cake with guava jam, a Black Forest cake with chocolate and cherry—all with custom designs), and the most darling cupcakes for a baby shower (chocolate and vanilla, styled to look like suns and rainbows, with both gluten and gluten-free cupcakes).

They (literally) went the extra mile to make sure we got what we needed: When we were running behind before the start of a party, they made a delivery for us—truly exceptional.

I told friends who live outside of Berkeley about Sweet Bites, and they’ve faced traffic and crossed multiple bridges multiple times to get here, it’s that good.

They brought my child's dream cake idea to life. A Studio Ghible inspired red velvet cream cheese cake. The red velvet cake was so moist and the cream cheese frosting was fluffy. They accept custom orders and can make any cake gluten free. Everyone who had a piece of our cake said how incredibly delicious it was and were blown away by the design.

From the moment we walked in we had a warm welcome. Their menu is a nice assortment of flavors that include vegetarian and vegan options.

So grateful this place is nestled where it is, it is exactly what the neighborhood needed. Seating options are available for eating in with a great view of the mural across the street. We will definitely buy all our future cakes here.
