bookstore adventures: come visit mrs. dalloways with me ✨// berkeley, california Mrs. Dalloway's Literary and Garden arts is a cozy independent bookstore in Berkeley, California. I found it a few years ago, late into my university life as a student at UC Berkeley -- as well as its neighboring coffee shop/bakery Baker and Commons -- and only wished I'd discovered both sooner. I recently visited again to pick up some new releases from some of my favorite authors and do some writing. The staff is so kind and helpful, and the browsing the bookstore made my heart swell with warmth and excitement. AD: A sped up, acoustic version of "somewhere only we know" by Keane, with soothing piano in the background. The lyrics of the selection: "I came across a fallen tree / I felt the branches of it looking at me / Is this the place we used to love? / Is this the place that I've been dreaming of? / Oh, simple thing, where have you gone? / I'm gettin' old, and I need something to rely on." VD: A series of clips depicting the outside and inside of a bookstore, Mrs. Dalloway's. The outside is tan, with large windows through which book displays can be seen and large lettering reading “Mrs. Dalloways Literary and Garden Arts” on one window. The inside is cozy, with lots of plants and gardening supplies for sale, alongside more traditional displays of books. There is a clip of a mobile depicting characters from the "Heartstopper" books by Alice Oseman above the display of Young Adult books, as well as watercolor paintings by local artists. Very nice shop. A little bit cluttered and cramped, but what bookstore worth it's salt is spacious? The staff was lovely and helpful. The shop was filled with natural sunlight and the sounds of the cafe next door. Plenty of book-lovers browsing the shelves and chatting.

Bookstores are just such a happy place for me, and this bookstore's layout is just so open, and well-organized! It's so easy to feel at-ease there.
