The 14 Karats is a father and son shop. I really like these guys--affable and honest. And they have the sweetest dog there who might come and greet you.

A few years back, my wife and I bought our wedding rings from them after we sold some jewelry for credit. Kerry, the son, worked with us on the types of bands, taking plenty of time to take us through a number of options. My wife and I both love the rings they made for us.

And I remember, rather amusingly, that John, the father, said my ring size was right in the middle of 2 sizes, and recommended I take the larger one because folks tend to gain weight as they get older. Let's just say that was the right call.

I've also worked with John on the aforementioned sale to them, as well as getting quotes on other pieces more recently.

I brought 14 karats a beautiful silver ring with lapis lazuli inlay. They charged what I thought was a very high fee to resize it, but it was worth it because this was a very special ring that I had purchased in Mexico. I was informed that it would be ready within one week. When I tried to check on it, I got a somewhat rude rebuff from the jeweler. I was less than pleased with the customer service but I waited for an additional 2 weeks before I got a quizzical message that there had been some 'problem' with resizing the ring. The 'problem' was that they had cracked the stone in 2 places. Now my beautiful ring has 2 hairline cracks in the stone. So basically I paid a lot of money to get my ring cracked. Words cannot begin to describe how amazing this place was! I came in on Dec 23rd in a complete panic after another local jewelry shop had dropped the ball and not done anything with redesigning and assembling a piece of jewelry for my mother after having it for almost a month. I brought the ring in and asked if there was anything they could do to make a birthstone ring or necklace out of the damaged ring. They took it back and showed me a beautiful design and finished and set the stones into a necklace in LESS THAN 24 HOURS!! I cried in the car after getting it.
