I had the most absurd experience there. In the past service had been reasonably smooth but today a pigeon flew over everyone’s tables and violently ran into the window multiple times flapping over everyone’s food. To be clear the pigeon was flying in the indoor part of the restaurant. A waitress dropped a glass(this happens often when the dishes aren’t cleared), our waiter dropped our silverware into our laps, there were too many “Lucy’s” so she gave us the wrong food then picked it up and served it to another table. Two of our sandwiches had hairs on them, and when using the bathroom it became evident that the waiters clearing food also simultaneously assembled the food. Also the freshly baked goods were on a tray cart open to the air literally right against the bathroom door where people are going in and out of the bathroom as well as standing in line. Heads up they also serve the lattes in bowls where the barista making it puts their fingers all over the rim of the bowl where you sip. Not the quaint little cafe I...

So 5 minutes later we met this neighborhood gem - a vivid yellow little beautiful bakery at the corner of Russell & College.
It’s not the everything-perfect type of bakery that wows you with flawlessness, but it’s charming nonetheless exactly because of its laidback attitude and the tolerance of imperfection - just like HOME. You care less, because you can be real.
It features home baking goods, in pan, in tray, in down-to-earth paper cups and containers; its latte is in a bowl (kinda cute); it picks seasonal fruits and turns them into golden shiny turnover; it slices tiramisu upon order.
Dog friendly. Kid friendly. Book nerd friendly. Life long relationship friendly.
If you didn’t fall in love at first glance here, that’s fine, you will gradually...
Read moreIt’s my second time in and was rather disappointed. The fried egg sandwich is good when made without rage but today it took an hour and was completely squished, making a sticky yolky mess out of the bread. I’m not sure what happened today but I hope it’s not always like this.
Update: I asked 3 different people behind the counter and on the floor for help with a cookie that was missing from my order, that alone took 30 minutes and not one person helped me. I had to get back in line and ask the register directly for the cookie they never gave me. It took 90minutes for breakfast and another hour to get the cookie.
Last time in and my fried egg sandwich wasn’t assembled? so I had to put it all together myself after waiting 45 minutes. Also all of their water glasses are tiny. If you want a regular glass you have to ask for it at...
