On a Thursday my brother to my mom in to the ER. She was released and then on Sunday we took her back. She was weak and short of breath. Her symptoms were pointing toward her heart. Once they got a positive covid test on my mom they quit looking. So she spent a few days in hospital in Boone. She was taken to her room where she was treated like a inconvenience. No one wore masks or anything even though she was allegedly positive for Covid. All the sudden at shift change that they started doing the covid protocal. She was not given her home meds the way perscribed. We were looking for a bed in a skilled facility for her. When the Social worker called my sister and said if we didn't come get her to take her to the nursing home she found a room for her in that she would send my mom by cab!!!! We were trying to get there. As all of us kids were at work. My Siblings got there to take her to the nursong home. Then one day in a Boone nursing home sent her to Mary Greely to find out in the first 45 minutes she was there that she had blood clots in lungs!!!! Thank God for Mary Greely.
Then my dad ended up at BCH for skilled care. This visit was no better then moms. He had a stroke a few years ago and has speech problems. Some staff did not take the time to let him talk and when his wife explained to them his neds needed to be given at a certain time, she was told they couldnt do that. It had to be on the protocol time of the hospital. something sounds stupid to me. Wouldnt you keep a patients med schudule as close to home as possible? He needed them 2 hours before bed or he would be in major pain. He was given them after he was in bed. He has been out a week and still waiting for his in home PT and nurse. His wife has called and left messages and no...
Read moreIf you can just drive down to Mary Greely in Ames. This hospital is at best an urgent care center. I wouldn't even call it that because I would have had better service at an urgent care center. I took my 2 month old in because he had a fever and they just told me to give him some tylenol. I took him the next day to McFarland clinic they admitted him over to Mary Greely hospital because he had an infection and need intravenous antibiotics. He had to stay for 3 days in the hospital.
Before that, Boone County Hospital ambulance picked me up because I was going into labor with my son. Six months later I get a call from collection that I have an outstanding bill from Boone County Hospital. I contacted the hospital and they stated that they didn't know where I live and they tried to send a bill. You picked me up in the ambulance at my house. How do you not know where I live? Besides the point, my insurance told them because they filed the bill late that they have to file that with their claims insurance because it has nothing to do with me. They still sent me to collections anyway. So I contacted the Boone County Hospital business office to tell them their error and they still trying to blame me for this because it was my fault they didn't file the claim with my insurance in a timely manner. My insurance was nice enough to pay the bill but they still have me in collections. My insurance had to chew the business office personnel which it just one person.
Boone County Hospital needs to be avoided at all possible. The doctors are not adequate and you be better off...
Read moreThe front desk lady gave weird and unwelcoming vibes as she made me sit down and wait 5 minutes for her to finish what SHE was doing (there wasn't anyone else, she was just printing papers). It's an emergency room... Shouldn't the people at the front desk have a little more urgency when dealing with patients? I saw 3 different nurses before I finally saw one of the doctors. They left me alone in a room for 1.5 hours with the door wide open and a cleaning lady even came in while I was in there. I went in for a UTI and nobody asked about my menstrual cycle before they asked for a sample, and then one of the nurses told me after the fact that if there is menstrual blood in the sample, they would have to use a catheter, which feels very overdramatic and I know that they can tell the difference between menstrual blood and other blood. I get prescribed antibiotics, and after I'm already halfway through those antibiotics, I get a call that the ones I were given don't work and that I need to go pick up different ones. It was by far the most bizarre, confusing, and uncomfortable experience I've had...
