Our 14yo saved up for months to buy an oculus meta quest 3, which he purchased at this GameStop on the release date, 10/11/23. He didnāt keep the receipt, but did keep the box and everything in it. Today, 11/5/23 (less than a month later), the oculus visually glitched and then turned off during normal use, and would not turn on or charge. My son and I came in to GameStop together for assistance, with everything back in the box.
There were two employees in the store, and no other customers. The staff immediately said they could not help us, since we had not purchased their extended warranty. They didnāt seem to have any further recommendations.
I asked to get a copy of the receipt, in that case, so we could go through the manufacturerās warranty. (I knew from my own research, not from them, that the manufacturerās warranty was 30 days.) They also couldn't help with that. They gave me an 800 number to call. I spent about 30 minutes on the call out in my car, trying to get a copy of the receipt, and then the person I was speaking to accidentally hung up on me and didnāt call back. 0_o
At that point I decided to look online and try to do some trouble-shooting on the oculus myself. I was able to get the oculus up and running again fairly easily.
I was then also able to easily buy a 2-year warranty directly from meta quest - for much less than the price GameStop had offered for the same time period, $40 instead of $150.
We are left feeling it would have been much better to buy online, or from some other store in town, one that keeps (at minimum) 30-day records of receipts. Losing a receipt on a big-ticket item sometimes happens, and itās basic customer service to handle...
