My stylist today was not great. She herself was lovely. But she needs more training. Getting your hair done is a luxury. I just came from a facial and my hair was covered in oil in a ponytail. Definitely ready for a wash. I was so excited because the person I spoke to over the phone was so fantastic and these ladies got me in at the end of the day! This is what I’m accustomed to when it comes to Ulta! L As soon as my stylist started to shampoo me, I noticed quite a few things were off. Her shampoo technique was timid, and she put shampoo on my ends, took my long hair and started to scrub the ends of my hair. She only shampooed one time and really didn’t get into the oil in my hair. There was also a chunk of shampoo behind my ear that I had to show her and ask to please rinse off. As she continue to rinse my head in the bowl, the water Started to run down the bowl into my shirt. The back of my neck got really wet. It was uncomfortable to say the least.
I also requested a deep condition treatment. The product used for deep conditioning at Ulta in Bozeman is part of the Redken line. It’s a product I’ve never been familiar with before and I wasn’t thrilled with it. My hair by no means felt deeply conditioned and I ended up paying $22 for this added service.
Before I sat in the chair to start my blow out, I had to go to the bathroom to take my shirt off because it was wet. My stylist was kind enough to give me a robe to change into and she put my shirt in the dryer so it could dry. I tried to relax but the red flags were making me feel awkward. I just really didn’t feel like I had a deep clean for my hair nor did I feel my hair was conditioned enough.
I sat down in the chair and started to watch her blow technique. She raised the small blow dryer above my hair started to brush my hair with a regular brush, she did not put on any heat protectant whatsoever.
After grabbing another piece of my hair, I looked at the first one that she blew out. It was still damp and frizzy. The reason I get a blowout is to take the frizz out of the hair with the heat from the blow dryer! This is a blowout technique used with a round brush. I requested that she use a round brush. I watched her technique with the round brush and the blow dryer , I could do a better job. It was my day off, and if I knew the service was going to be like this today, I would’ve just gone home and washed my hair myself. I wanted to treat myself. Before my stylist could pick up another piece of my hair I told her I was done. I didn’t want any confrontation but I really was frustrated. I just looked at her in the mirror and I said you know what, I think I’m just gonna go.
I just wanted to leave. I didn’t want to tell this person how to do their job. I wanted to sit down have my hair washed, feel clean and get a blowout that I was going to pay $69 for, and I wanted it to be perfect.
When she handed me my receipt, it said $69 was going to be the entire service wash deep condition blowout. I said I’m not going to pay $69 when you just washed my hair.
Her exact words were, you asked me not to blow out your hair. Basically implying that this is going to be the cost that I pay because this is the service that I booked.
I was livid! I stormed to the front of the store and requested to speak with a manager. I did not want any sort of confrontation today. I was tired and overall so frustrated. My emotions were high.
The manager was wonderful. I let her know that I didn’t want to tell anyone how to do their job. I was already uncomfortable, and I didn’t feel I was in a good place of explaining myself at that point in time.
I really just wanted to leave. I felt awkward. I felt weird and honestly, I felt ugly sitting there with my hair, soaking wet in a giant flannel jacket because I couldn’t put on my shirt .
This is not an attack. This is just genuine concern and upset. I never felt that way leaving Ulta before. I came directly home today , re-washed my hair let my deep conditioner sit for a couple of minutes like I’m used to, and I blew out my...
Read moreI came in on Sunday at 3:30 PM for my 3:45 appointment with Tynisha. My appointment began at 4:05. I explained I wanted my hair jet black (as it was faded) and I had booked an all over color. She told me she would do my roots and then do a gloss treatment in the bowl after washing my hair. I asked some questions as I have never had this application done before in 15 years of getting my hair dyed jet black. I have only had dye applied by brush from root to end. At 5:20 I laid in the shampoo bowl for an additonal 30 minutes after she washed my hair and after she applied the gloss to my hair. This was really uncomfortable but I was trying to trust the process. After she washed it out, I had explained I wanted a blowout, with waves and curls, I showed her several pictures too. Well at 6 PM she began blow drying my hair, but she had to stop communicating with me as the salon was closed and she was supposed to be taking a class- and there were hairdressers near us on Zoom listening to an instructor about keratin treatments. She finished drying my hair in silence and not only was it not jet black, it was frizzy (she even called my hair frizzy!) And it was straight. She said she couldn't style my hair like the pictures because I had no layers, which honestly didn't make sense. There was absolutely no wave or curled ends even. But what was more upsetting was feeling rushed out and paying almost $90 and not getting what I asked for. I left and took pictures of my hair to confirm that it wasn't jet black, as I could tell it wasn't jet black but it still looked dark in the salon lighting, so I was unsure, but now I am not. I am here on vacation so I cannot come in for a color correction. This is really upsetting because I wasted over 2 hours of my time and I felt rushed because she was late to my appointment, and had a class she had to attend during the last half of my appointment, and as such I had to pay for it by getting a mediocre treatment. She was nice but the lack of attention to detail, and her letting me walk out with my hair looking the way it did, comes off as very unprofessional, and she is considered a Master stylist. I am very disappointed and don't know what else to do but write a review as I cannot come back in. Attached is photos of my "wavy and curly blowout" and my "jet black" hair. I also had dye all around my face- forehead and cheeks, which was the least of my worries but still disappointing and unprofessional. Also, upon further inspection and talking to others, my hair is DAMAGED. My hair did NOT look like this before going in, and I've NEVER had frizzy hair! Tynisha damaged my hair! I am thinking she used too high of a developer, people are asking if I got highlights and that doesn't make sense if I got black hair dye applied, but it does if she used the wrong developer and LIFTED my hair color. Update: after going in, and spending about half an hour at the store, I got a refund. But the salon manager never came out to speak to me- she spoke to the store manager through the walkie talkie who then relayed info to me. It was VERY unprofessional and rude, but the store manager was new so I was patient, but I've wasted 3 hours, a lot of gas and nothing but a patchy dye job to show for it. The manager also asked me if I got my hair done at another salon "because it looked black" and I had to argue that this is not jet black. I am NOT happy with how I was treated and I have damaged hair, so I will be writing corporate to report the Tynisha and the salon manager, because this was all unacceptable. How can managers treat paying and loyal customers like this? Why argue with me?...
Read moreI went into ulta looking for new foundation and highlighter. I asked to speak to someone to help considering I’ve never really wore much makeup and wanted to learn a few things. I was directed to an esthetician that seemed annoyed more than anything with me. I had a specific budget that day of $100 and mostly wanted to get set up with a good foundation And a few other little things. I asked about the lessons they do on applying and was told it was $30 for that and $45 for a full application. I told her that considering my budget for that day I just would have to settle for getting foundation and would come back to get the “lesson” another day. The girl rolled her eyes at me a few times, seemed annoyed that I asked to color match me with a foundation (which I ended up spending $47 on) and was pointed in the direction of the most expensive products (I have no problem paying for quality products) even after I had half my budget blown on foundation. I love the foundation and definitely feel it was the right match for me but I continued shopping in tears after speaking to her and feeling like I was just a nuisance. I thought they were there to educate on products etc. I was instead made to feel like I was too dumb to even be in there. I work in a shop and explained I needed minimal makeup that didn’t make me break out from working with oil. I ended up shopping a little more and even ended up spending $140 there. I will say the other associates in there were very helpful (especially in the brow section and a gentleman who genuinely seemed to care and have plenty of knowledge and respect for my budget). I will be back just because of those associates. However, After reading some other reviews saying the same thing that some retraining should be in order. Not everyone has extensive knowledge on the subject and should be treated with respect. Customer service will bring people back over...
