This dojo is fantastic! It teaches aiki-juijutsu. Like many martial arts, it focuses on pillars of characteristics, such as honesty, honor, loyalty, and etcetera. The focus is on a defensive demeanor rather than offensive one, but emplors moves that can lead to debilitating an aggressor.
I attended a graduation assessment. A student was attempting to move up from yellow belt to green belt. The progression of belts is white, yellow, green... black. She had to demonstrate the typical moves to demonstrate knowledge of the art; punches, throws, kicks, rolls, etc.
The final stage of the test was the student standing in the center of the dojo surrounded by a person at each corner (4) with a higher ranking belt. Each person would take turns approaching the student with an attack. The student had to defend herself. Only one person could attack at a time but another person could approach to immediately launch another offense as soon as the student neutralized the other aggressor.
The young lady defender herself repeatedly with a variety of defensive and offensive moves. It was like watching MMA and WWE Royal Rumble at the same time (LOL). All joking aside, it was exhilirating to watch! In the end, she did a brilliant job of defending herself and was promoted to green belt. Bravo!
