Not a serious buyer of jewelry. Took two gold pendants to the guy. Both stamped with the purity markings. He plays games for a few minutes pretending he can’t see them and then after I point them out he insists on scratching and acid testing my jewelry before he can offer me an estimate. I ask him what the estimate is based on. He says the weight of the gold and the amount of carats of diamonds. I say why don’t you give me your offer based off of that and if I like the offer then you can test it. He then makes it seem like I’m being difficult and says he’s not interested. I gladly left. His strategy is to scratch your jewelry up and then give you a lowball offer. If you decline the offer you have a scratched up piece of jewelry that the next place will offer you less for. Be careful dealing with these jewelers who think they know more than you and try to take advantage of that.
Edit: Do not believe his disingenuous response or his blasphemous fake blessings. I was on a tour of jewelry shops and received many other offers without the “common practice” of defacing jewelry before making an offer. I went to their store because I heard they paid the most. It’s a scam. You can say it’s a common practice amongst scammer jewelers but reputable businesses won’t ask you to ruin your property before exchanging value. I would have totally been open to a test AFTER hearing how much money I would receive. He needs to run for office the way he issued his statement and tried to word it in a way that makes me seem like the unreasonable or irrational party. He already knows as a jeweler that no two pieces are exactly identical even if they come from the same creator especially something like a pendant. He’s attempting to use your lack of knowledge about jewelry to make it seem like my jewelry is fake. I’ll bet him 10k every piece of jewelry is what it says it is but he’s not gonna do that cause he already knows. The play is to damage your jewelry then make an offer. Only bring him scrap metal, if you trust him on that idk tho I wouldn’t recommend honestly. It be...
Read moreI went in today 12/26/24 to see if I could sell a two items at melt/spot value for myself and my wife. I was greeted warmly by the owner’s son. He performed an acid test on the items and then his father came out and finished up the tests. After being satisfied with the composition of my items I was offered a price for both items and I accepted the offer for one of the items. They printed out a check for the one item and told me that I could cash it next door or deposit it. After walking outside and calling my wife I became quite apprehensive about being given a check and not cash. I walked back in and asked if a check is all they could do and that I meant no disrespect as I was just a little unsure about being given a check. They were very cordial and alleviated my concerns and reminded me that I could just walk next door to cash the check which is the advice I followed. I went in next door to Prince’s Market, a place I am familiar with to cash the check. I was told that it would be $16 to which I said “ouch” in my head but that she can just go ahead and cash it. The son of the owner of Gold Buyers quickly entered the door waving a $20 bill saying that I was a legitimate check bearer and that they would cover the fee for cashing the check. This made me feel very welcome, taken care of, and any concerns I had about the Gold Buyers check payment quickly vanished. Let me tell you something, this father and his son are very friendly, welcoming, professional and above all honest about their business. This also isn’t to mention they are very knowledgeable and fair about their trade. This was a very satisfactory business experience for me and I wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone that may want to buy or sell precious metals or jewelry to them. Rest assured you will be treated fairly and...
