I found Joy of Yoga earlier this year when I took a workshop called Yoga for Bigger Bodies. It was an amazing workshop that helped me to learn how to use props to allow me to better get into poses and to feel comfortable going into any yoga class anywhere. This class really helped me to understand how the use of props could take my yoga practice even further. Since then I’ve taken more of their classes and look forward to more workshops. The Yoga instructors I’ve met are kind, knowledgeable and most importantly...very welcoming!! This studio has every prop imaginable for you to use to support your practice in any way. All classes I have gone to, I have seen a wide variety of experience levels in the same class, all ages, men and women. This studio is truly the definition of Yoga for EVERYBODY and Yoga for Every BODY! When you walk into a yoga studio for the first time, your first impression, especially if it is your very first time at a yoga studio, is the most important and with yoga, there is no second chance to make a first impression (in my experience and opinion)! This is a studio I highly recommend and one I will continue to visit and practice at. Thank you for being a Yoga...
Read moreI used to love going to classes in their beautiful studio, but now I've been receiving the streamed videos. While I miss the camaraderie of yoga in person, I do love the convenience of being able to watch these videos (of a very high quality) for 3 days afterwards. In-person, my favorite teacher was Alicia: I used to walk in the room and practically melt at her feet, because her presence is just that divinely calming! Now that I'm a bit less frantic than in the past due to working more at home, I love Joy's mindful movement classes. Joy has a great video presence and helps me bring so much awareness to my "monkey mind" and my need to always "move on, move faster," etc. I've taught yoga in the past, and I have practiced for 30 years, so I appreciate that they have yoga for all ages and abilities. And all of the teachers seem to take their yoga off the page and bring in yoga philosophy to every aspect of their classes. They are wonderfully wise and HUMAN, and I love witnessing them blossom on their path while I trot along behind on my own quiet journey. These wonderful teachers show us how yoga is a "practice" - and that is precisely the "perfection" (and the joy) of...
Read moreThis is a wonderful studio with a welcoming, positive energy and a genuine sense of community. I have felt completely at ease here: the instructors offer instruction, but emphasize that what they offer is suggestion--if your body isn't feeling it, if your body needs a different pose or it just needs to be still, that is accepted and encouraged here. Very diverse community with regard to age and ability. No mirrors on the wall, so no tendency to look at yourself or others to see if "you're doing it right", or if you're doing it as well as someone else. A very good variety of classes and topics, as well as times they are offered; additionally, almost all are available to select as online, so if the time doesn't work for you, or if you just want to try the class from your home, you can do so. But I encourage you to come to the studio at some point--you will not be disappointed! Plus, maybe you will be fortunate enough to come on a day when the owner, Joy, brings her adorable and happy dog, Archie--he is a great source of additional...
