If I could give a 0 I would!!!! The absolute worst salon experience ever!! James is the most unprofessional business owner I have ever come across, from throwing his stylist under the bus to using childish tactics such as poor language and hanging up the phone in frustration. My experience started with an appointment in which they called and asked me to come 15 minutes early. When I arrived I waited 25 minutes after my original appointment. On the first visit a consolation, cut and what I thought was going to be a style. Stylist left my hair wet and I had to ask for her to dry and style. The consolation was to discuss a hair color I would like. We discussed color in length asking if she felt it was a multiple session requirement to meet the color I requested. She assured me it could be done in one session just would take about 4 hours. I made my color appointment. A few days later I received a call to reschedule due to the stylist was ill. They recommended the day and time which I agreed to. When I arrived the stylist did not recognize me and when I sat down her question to me was, "okay what are we doing today". I had to re-review the hair color and my request. An hour into the appointment the receptionist came back and let her know she had another appointment. She was double booked (her words). The client did not want to leave so now she was moving from the other client and myself. When she washed the first color/lighting off I had black dye all over my ears, neck and face. When I mentioned it she gave me a towel and then said I could use Purell when I got home (which burned my ears and did not work). At this point she needed to work on the other client so she asked me to dry my own hair. We are now 4.5 hours into the appointment. Around this time James the owner came over and said he noticed I had been there for awhile. He said she "always does this", referring to my stylist. He continued to express how it is so difficult for him to coach her because she just gets upset and says he is mean. The entire conversation was uncomfortable. She finally came back and added the color I wanted (so I thought). After another hour and half (I realize color has to process) she came back and washed my hair. With wet hair she said we were done. I couldn't even see the purple I asked for. I also said I had expected a dry and style. She asked me to wait again (45 mins). At this point James returned with a $20 off facial coupon, and expressing his frustration with her and asking me to not discuss my situation at this time but to call him on Monday to discuss so we don't get her crying (his words). When she finally styled my hair and turned me around to the mirror she said do you see the purple? I responded with not really and what I see isn't what I asked for. While she figured my bill out I expressed my disappointment and she said give it a day or two and if you want to come back I can try to make it right. When I called back and expressed my experience and disappointment and that I did not want him or anyone else from his business to fix my hair. He continued to tell me about his struggles as a business owner, short staffed, young individuals that can not be coached, stylist that will just leave if they get upset. I told him I wanted a refund, he continued to complain and tell me he could take over. I expressed I was not comfortable with that. He asked me to send pics (for coaching purposes). Expecting a call the next day to process the refund. When he called me he said, "I spoke with another salon owner and to process any kind of refund I will need you to sign a waiver saying you will not express you experience on social media." I responded with I will not sign anything like that. At this point he became rude, unprofessional (calling me names) and telling me my hair looks great and health, as if I should be happy. I let him know he was rude and I would be contacting my credit card company to dispute the transaction. He hung up abruptly!!! Never ever go to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI love this salon!!! I will always recommend this place anytime I have a hair color disaster or need my split ends tackled or just plain old touch ups. This is the place to go for sure. Iāve been working closely with Jon and Michelle. Jon really takes his time and patience with his haircuts and styles and the products he uses leaves my hair healthy and smooth. Products arenāt too expensive either! Michelle is a hair color expert for sure! I decided to put Arctic Fox black hair dye in my hair on my own and the first day looked great! However....on the second day I took a shower and my hair turned GREEN šš when I came in for my appointment about a week later Michelle and I went a different route. Instead of just bleaching it and potentially frying my hair we did a ācolor shiftā. We turned my hair a very pretty plum red and she saved my hair! A step in the right direction and I go back in about a month to get some highlights. That way the hair turned all one color and canceled out any green that was left in the hair. Texture was still smooth and healthy. She also showed me a few tips and tricks on how to properly care for curly hair and how to get it to the texture I desire. Iāve never had any other salon actually educate me on hair care and how to properly use the products Iām purchasing. Along with a timeframe of when to shampoo and condition. Not to mention they make me feel so welcome, and do such a phenomenal job. They really take the time to get to know you on a personal level and their prices are well worth it. Yes you may spend a bit more but I promise it is worth every penny. A good quality company with good...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSo I posted this for a friend when she started here, but I wanted to share my experience at this salon. Van does a great job! My issue isnāt with her, but with the salon owner. I sat in the salon for over 5 hours this day. The reason? Because Van was being forced to run around and assist the owner while he was tending to clients. The weirdest thing I have see in a salon is here. He had his clients holding the foils for him to put in their hair. I donāt know about everyone else, but I like to relax when Iām paying someone a couple hundred dollars to do my hair. I thought that was tacky. But what happened was that I guess he thought I was just a practice model for Van so I didnāt matter when Iām fact I was a paying customer. Like $200 paying customer and sat there patiently because I love Van, and I didnāt want to complain. Go somewhere like Ginger Bay where you donāt sit for hours or hold your foils. Tacky run business.
Thank god Van quit this place. Maybe it has changed since that post? I just felt I should share.
Last week was my first time at Mitchell James Salon, and I will be going back. The stylist on staff were friendly, attentive and up to date with the current trends and styles. Van gave me wonderful service. She was professional, and gave me great advice on which colors would look best on me. She also did an amazing job cutting my hair. I am very picky about my hair, and I was not disappointed! I will be going back and recommending Van to all...
