So this is lengthy - but I did a little side by side comparison of a Food Delivery Service (Plated, Blue Apron, Hello Fresh, they're all the same) vs. TIME FOR DINNER last week - so for all the busy moms out there...I'm gonna get a little long-winded and specific.
Let's start with the Meal Plan Delivery Service. Pros: The food was DELISH and I was able to customize to my liking. The instructions were easy to follow and it did take me about 30 mins to prep and about 30 minutes cook time (depending on what the meal was.)
CONS: THE PACKAGING - HOLY PACKAGING! The Boxes, the HUGE Ice Packs, the boxes the food came in, the little packages of cheese, sauce, milk, etc... My recycle bin/ garbage was full. The 1st instruction I read was: "Wash & dry all vegetables and then strip & thinly slice Kale." Stop right there, this is already more work that I have time for. 3 pots/pans for one of the meals. Stop. -2 Meals (4 servings each) cost $80...there were leftovers, but only because my kids refused to eat it. As a mom with 2 kids under 6, a puppy, and a full time job I have about 2 hours to feed and enjoy my kids before the bedtime battle. I don't want to spend it thinly slicing kale.
TIME FOR DINNER.
Time for Dinner is the CLEAR winner. So if you're a busy mom like me - kids, job, and basically being responsible for "all the things" - this is the solution for dinner. Buy it. Throw it in the freezer and heat it up when you don't feel like being responsible for dinner....
Read moreediting my review because the staff addressed the items i mentioned below. Meat has been much better the past few months. I have been going in with smaller orders and they do typically have all i need without having to preplace an order online. customer service has gone above and beyond to satisfy* Absolutely love this place for the most part. Service is great. I am not sure what the base is for the mac n cheese, but it made me sick the first time i tried it. I thought maybe I had a bad batch so i tried it again. That time it gave my 2 year old diarrhea- neither of us have any food allergies or sensitivities. Desserts and corn casserole are superb. Have tried several meat dishes. Some have been great and cook perfect. Others the cuts of meat just weren’t good and they don’t turn out well- too thick & some tough and fatty areas. I have tried some dishes that come with a sauce or butter but hardly any of it is given. For instance, 12 rolls came with the smallest little cup of butter- maybe enough for 3 of the 12 rolls. For what I’m paying, I should be getting 4X the butter. I wish for carryout orders they wouldn’t make you order a minimum as sometimes I may just want 2 things and other times I may want 20. Granted you can just stop in & see what they got in their case, but it may not be everything you want plus you don’t know how long its been sitting in their freezer. All and all the place is great, but there are a few things that could be...

Favorites so far: -Bean and sweet potato burritos. Easy to pop in the microwave for a minute, then serve with salsa for a quick lunch. I wish we had ordered more than 8. -Cheddar chicken bites. Fancy chicken nuggets paired perfectly with chicken dipping sauce. -Korean BBQ Steak. 2 giant tenderloins we grilled on the stovetop and served with rice and snow peas fresh from the garden. -Luau Pork. We cooked in the crockpot all day while we were out. It shredded easily and was very moist. We made BBQ pork sliders for dinner, and then had pork quesadillas for lunch today. -Pork Asado with Chimichurri Sauce. We served these pork medallions with rice and black beans. Enough chimichurri sauce to cover everything!
You can order your meals for pickup (they'll have everything packaged and frozen ready to pop in your cooler). Or, you can prepare your own meals in store to bring home. They'll have all the ingredients ready and you'll measure and package everything yourself. It would be a great date night to get out of the house and try...
