The Ice Palace — Local services in Brick Township

I want to start by saying I never leave reviews and even now I honestly feel bad. But if no one is gonna say it then I will.

I recently had a really awkward and overall bad experience at this place for public skate. I stood at the front at the beginning of the session, waiting about 20 minutes for someone to come talk to us public skaters. Someone finally got the attention of a worker, who informed us that there was no public skate that day, when it very obviously said so on the calendar. He seemed irritated to me, like we were nuisances, but perhaps he was just tired. He said he would try to fit something in but cut the time by 45 more minutes and that didn’t include us standing there waiting. I felt VERY unwanted there, and being an anxious person as it is I immediately left, knowing that they more than likely didn’t Zamboni the ice anyway.

Someone I talked to there said showing up and getting on the ice was usually a “hit or miss.” Seriously???? This should never be the case and there is obviously some sort of management issue here. If you are going to put something on the calendar, either stand by it or change it. Don’t bother calling this place either— you will never get an answer.

When I skated here recently (different day), the ice was incredibly choppy. My skates were on the brink of needing to be sharpened anyway, but this place put the nail in the coffin for them after one session.

I’m giving this place 2 stars because when I was here 2-ish years ago the experience I had was alright! What happened????? It is very obvious that hockey is favored here, and it feels like literally anyone else, whether you know how to ice skate or not, is unwelcome.

I will say most of the staff I’ve talked to is nice! The person I saw last time seemed mildly irritated.

The experience I recently had was so wildly uncomfortable that I’m honestly gonna do everything I can to just stay at my local rink from this point forward. If this place wants to cater to specifically hockey and not public skating or figure skating, that should be stated somewhere. Perhaps things are different during the winter time. Our first experience was HORRIBLE- the staff member gave me the wrong information the day before & I drove 1hr 15 mins to enjoy a Sunday afternoon with the kiddies to try out the Skating bumper cars. We get here and they told us that we needed a reservation, I specifically asked the staff member the day before if we needed a reservation and he told me no and that we would be fine to come in Sunday as walk ins, I told him great and that we were definitely coming. The manager did not accommodate us with the fact that we drove over an hour to get here and just basically said he could not help at all! Bad bad customer service.
