First off I am dutch born and raised, since 2012 in the USA. Just to reflect, I am most definitely European.
The good ...
It's a relatively small store, that's relatively easy to navigate. They seem to have a relatively small selection of European goods. Too which I fully understand of course, does the USA does not like imported meat and such. So it's all packaged and vacuum packaged. I can't blame the store for that, that's a well-known regulation regarding the imports of meat an utter organic goods.
I was super happy to see that they have smoked mackerel, definitely a staple in my country. And definitely bought one. Taste of delicious, although it seems that these are a little bit more brinnier. I definitely ate the whole thing in a matter of few days.
Downsides
They are very pricey, even for a store that has international imported stuff. However it's a storefront so they probably pay a lot of rent. So it's forgiven. However what is harder to forgive, there's a large amount of product that they sell. But simply stale, stale cookies, stale candy stale bread. I would only go there for some packaged meats. I would not go there again, for the pastries cookies and candy bars.
At that price point, it should not be stale at the least. And that's a owner issue, they need to assure that the quality is there for the price they ask. I believe it's ran by a mother and a daughter, they are super nice people. And I most definitely don't want to badmouth them in any formal way. The fact is fact we all work for a dollar, I don't mind paying a little bit more to support a small local business. But they sure need to do better quality control on their items.
Will I be back? Just for the smoked mackerel absolutely. Will I go out of my way to go back? No not really, we've gone there a few times and it's been too much of a hit and miss. Relative to the prices that they hand there.
Hopefully this doesn't come across as hateful, I just hope the owner take note and do something with this information in a...
Read moreIt was my first time in the shop. Me and my daughters saw it and was curious to go inside. We purchased salami, baklava, etc. when we walked in we felt unwelcome. The cashier spent so much time with another guest that we felt like we were bothering her. The guest was quite inquisitive about the entire store. We were patient but felt strongly ignored. I do admit my faults. The guest is absolutely not always right for my part. I realize we walked in at closing and she hadnât had the chance to lock the doors because of the guest in front of us. I do apologize for that, sincerely. I just wish I could give more stars because stores like this are a positive part of the community and the works around us to build expansive knowledge about our world around us introducing us to many cultures and foods. Iâm sorry to bother we just wonât be back. Our entire purchasing experience was rushed while the other guest was catered to...
Read moreBe aware! They steal from you every time you shop there. Even though all my Romanian friends were telling me not to shop there because not only that the prices are double but they charge you a different price per item, today I went and the same thing happened to me. Per example i bought a small bag of flour and they charged me for a bigger bag instead, etc. Another issue is that many of the products are expired but they are still on the shelf for sale I am not planning to get sick. I will never shop...
