A good selection of overpriced donations. So as an update from my visit yesterday 8/4/2020. I've been an almost weekly shopper and visitor for quite some time now. I feel some prices are on a higher end but the selection usually is quite satisfactory and without much question, leave with more than I came intending to purchase. This all said, I've been a satisfied customer until yesterday afternoon. My wife and I stopped in after shopping at Walmart via public transportation (bus).I had my grocery items in my backpack and as always walk right in with my wife and start browsing the front kitchen item aisles. The store seemed fairly busy with probably 3 customers waiting for checkout. The cashier whom neither of us recognized called out informing me I must leave the backpack outside. I've never noticed a posted sign about this but when approaching the cashier about leaving the backpack at the checkout stand I was again told to take it outside. I then proceeded towards the door where extra carts are parked and asked if leaving the backpack safely tucked towards the back will satisfy the new (to me) rule. I was rudely told I must leave it outside. Politely, I told her I wasn't feeling safe in leaving it outside full of grocery items while we shopped. I was told we could shop perhaps one at a time if we had concern about possible theft of the backpack. The needed items we were shopping for will never be worth succumbing to the indifferent attitude displayed in front of the customers waiting to check out. I told my wife we are leaving together and walked out. I've never been treated like this for wearing a backpack especially to the small ( bookbag) style I use for manageable handling when out to get a few needed items and then back on the bus or other times riding my bike. I've both donated and purchased many things over the years from Goodwilll and will maintain a charitable nature as always, except with your store. It's been nice doing business but as told "one bad apple can spoil the bunch" Addios...
Read moreUpdated edit to owners response. I appreciate your response, Michael. But read this: "Steven C. Preston, the CEO of Goodwill, has attracted attention not only for his leadership but also for his net worth and compensation. With a net worth of $10 million and a total compensation of $1,188,733, which includes a base salary, bonuses, and retirement benefits, many question the juxtaposition of such earnings in a nonprofit context." I am one of those who question this. Why are you triple to quadruple the price for the EXACT SAME items such as DVD's compared to 2 stores less than 2 miles away? This may be due to the Goodwill policy but it is ridiculous when it comes to the local economy of any particular region. It makes sense DVDs in NYC should be a particular price, but in Butte, MT? At best, that is disingenuous, if not underhanded. But ya know what, your customers don't seem to know, nor care. So you have nothing to worry about. Have a good day.
Original review: My wife and I travel around the United States full-time in an RV. We stopped at many thrift stores as my wife enjoys finding Bargains on clothes since we're losing a lot of weight prior to visiting this store we stopped going to Goodwills because they were overpriced and we feel that there are a rip-off and giving back to the community is not something they actually do if you look it up. This one was pathetic. DVDs are almost $3 and there's no Rhyme or Reason to it since the DVD sets were about $4.99. Men's shirts can go up to $4 to $6 for a t-shirt regardless of condition or stains on the shirt. Everything in electronics and in kitchenware was overpriced and some things I actually saw more expensive than brand new on Amazon. Once again I find this disgusting, since this place is all 100% donation just like other thrift stores except they are half to 2/3 the price. I mean that sincerely, once again Goodwill is ripping people off. I will never donate to Goodwill nor will I ever buy from here again. You've proven yourself to...
Read moreOnly a couple employees are kind, aside from that, several of the staff are very rude! The ,new manager commented how he “pays for wrapping paper for glass goods patrons purchase as if it comes out of his pocket! No your consumers pay for it!most of your surplus is donated and consumers buy it basically free money to Goodwill! I purchased heavy items, glass, and I could not get more than 2 sheets of thin tissue paper 14x19 even though I said this will not protect these items on my drive and the cashier was rude and condescending, and said some consumers have small businesses, as if a consumer shopping is “taking advantage” of them! I said, what does that have to do with anything! I’m not a small business-the horrible treatment to my kids as well. Goodwill seems to feel entitled! You’re not “giving”anyone anything,we pay for the items you should offer to wrap them so they don’t break without telling a patron how the boss has to buy supplies! Some older female employees are so very rude! cashiers sneer and the presence of badmouthing as you walk out is obvious- This store needs new management and team building exercises to teach employee to socially respond and treat customers! And stop asking the public to donate to Easter seals by rounding up at the registers! Goodwill is supposed to be supporting Easter seals with every single purchase! Where does the extra change for rounding up...
