Peacock Beach — Local services in Cape Canaveral

Lived here for over 35 years, have seen MANY changes, and am sharing very important advice. "Peacock Beach" became a shallow beach after Jetty Park was built which makes it perfect for surfing hurricanes when it is too rough at other spots south like Second Light or Tables. If you want peacock feathers, they are usually shed late July through August. You will have better luck finding them driving through the neighborhood and looking under large trees where they roost at night. Parking at the beach is pretty much nonexistant. You may be better off knocking on someone's door in the neighborhood (not the big houses on the beach though) and ask nicely if you can park in front of their house. The beach is perfect for launches and watching fireworks- you can see the rocket launch pads and the old lighthouse during the day too. Overall though, the beach was intended for the residents of the neighborhood, but the secret is out and the bell can not be unrung. Please pick up your trash, don't harass the wildlife (especially Gopher Tortoises), and be mindful of swimmers and surfers if you plan on fishing. Swimmers are oblivious to the people fishing and will swim right into your gear. Please be respectful of the neighborhood when hunting for peacock feathers- some neighbors stockpile them and will hand them out to you if you are polite and ask nicely. A lot of the neighborhood consider them a nuisance due to the feces, noise, and damages to cars and screened in pools/patioes. The origin of the Peacocks were escapees from the Eberwein Family's Farm (a pioneering family of Cape Canaveral and one of the first settlers of the area) just north of Seaport Villages- it's all Condominiums and Resorts now. The Peacocks have traveled as far south as Central Avenue. If you are looking for something similar, try Cherie Down Park. Jetty Park is also a short walk to this beach. We went to beaches on both sides of Florida during our visit. This one, as well as Clear Water. This one was sooooo much better: The water temp in August was better; the clarity of the water was better; the beach itself was better... This one was so much quiet.

We got there at a good time as google maps brought us to a parking area with parking spots avail. There weren't many do if it gets busier than it was when we went, you'd probably have to park in the neighborhood before the little parking area and walk.

There's a short boardwalk to the beach, and even that was beautiful. A person went by me in her wheelchair and she sat in a little cove made on the boardwalk where she could still enjoy the sights and sounds of the ocean. That made me smile.

This was my favorite stop while in Florida, so I highly suggest. But I do recommend sun screen, which we forgot. Two wks of OUCH for me and a cple months of sand in...

My husband and I made a spontaneous decision to stop by a beach after we did a job estimate on Friday 12/08/23 around midday. We searched for a nearby one on the GPS and came across Peacock Beach, which we never heard of it before. We came to find out why the beach is named Peacock Beach!!---you see a lot of peacocks and peahens along the road in the neighborhood you drive through to get to the mini parking lot at the beach access area. There were not a lot of people there, but the people were friendly. A resident of the beach and his daughter stopped and spoke with me for a while, but they had no idea that the beach was named Peacock Beach.
