This book store is AMAZING! My fiancé and I stopped in this past Saturday since we were in the area (we don't live near Carlisle). The cat was adorable and let me pet him (I even got to sneak a picture)- bookstores that have a cat are always top-tier in my opinion. The selection of books, puzzles, notebooks they had was also a great variety. It was super neat to see the old building that the bookstore was housed in- it created a unique atmosphere that you'd never find at any Barnes & Noble. This was a solid experience and my fiancé (who doesn't even read, I might add) and I both agreed it was worth the stop into the store. We'll definitely be back next time we're in the area.

Small, but quaint bookshop. Went for a meet the author event from Harrisburg. They have some meeting space and a good selection of books. I'd go often if I were local.

Great little store and an even better owner. Thanks for the random conversation. The book selection is impeccable!

When I was a kid, my dad took me here all the time, and I still have some of those books to this day. Don't listen to that other guy's review-- it is absolutely a welcoming place for kids (Hello! there is a huge children's book and teen section), and I spent a lot of time here as a young kid. Working at Whistlestop was one of my first jobs in high school, and later when I was in college I ordered a few books through Whistlestop as well. Since then I've stopped in to browse and request a few books as well, and I've never been disappointed. Jeff Wood, the owner, is to this day one of the best bosses I've had the pleasure of working for; he's always so friendly and extremely helpful. Whistlestop is one of the most well organized and stocked bookshops of its size I've ever been to. Jeff can order anything you'd like if you call ahead, and prices are pretty low. The last time I ordered a book it was the same price on Amazon, came in within a few days, and made me happier to support a local business. Go check it out! They often have other little things besides books, like local art and trinkets, that make wonderful...

I was in Whistlestop yesterday. We have visitors from Belgium this weekend, and whenever we have visitors who are interested in books, Whistlestop Bookshop is a must-see stop in Carlisle.

The bookstore was crowded with shoppers, and everyone seemed happy to be there. My group of four was looking at the shirts that are dedicated to famous novels. Our Belgium visitors knew many of the featured books, but they were unfamiliar with "Goodnight Moon". We headed straight to the Children's Section, and I read them the entire book, in well under 5 minutes, pointing out, of course, my favorite things in the pictures. It's something I was comfortable doing in this very...
