Planet Fitness — Local services in Carolina

I went to this gym on vacation a year and a half ago. I do not live in Puerto Rico. I signed up for a week pass, and they told me I could cancel anytime from my app. It sounded straightforward and simple.

Since then, I’ve tried calling in and canceling my membership 4 different times, and nobody is able to do it on their end. The employees are taught that the “policy” is that I have to send in a physical letter, with my signature, to cancel the membership. I don’t blame the employees, as I know they’re trying their best. I do feel this is a very dishonest way to do things. I was also lied to about being able to cancel on the app.

It’s 2024, and that fact that a gym is telling members to send in a physical paper with a signature, is ridiculous. It’s a way to get people like me to pay month after month. They make it as hard as possible for us to cancel, when I know the manager there is able to do it from a computer screen. No business actually requires a physical letter.

I’ve now been charged hundreds of dollars, including $94 yesterday… and I haven’t been to the gym since I was there a year and a half ago. I understand there’s a policy. I also understand that a policy can be unethical and dishonest. That is the case in this situation. I will now pay to send a letter in, to a country I don’t live in… and hope it gets there ok. Because they can’t just cancel my membership over the phone. The world today is wicked, and this small policy shows how greedy people are over money. It’s sad. Change the policy and take care of...

you pay for vip service that included haircuts but you try to make appointment and they never answer the phones. you cant do appointments the day before by going to gym you have to call and feels like a scam to me.
