I've had multiple installs at Car Tunes over the years. When I was in high school, I had Car Tunes install a complete system in my car. It sounded amazing and I never had any problems. For many years I swore that Car Tunes was one of the best places you could get audio installed, and I was right. It was a great place. Key word: was. Eleven months ago, I spent over $2,000 for a complete system at Car Tunes. But then I started to notice some things. For instance, when I turned the system up REALLY loud, the entire system would cut out for a second. Not a big deal – I planned on just having Car Tunes fix it when I was back in town, because they guaranteed quality for a year after installation. Other stuff came up, like my tweeters were always emitting white noise. It’s faint, but very noticeable when the system is turned down low or while listening to talk radio. I called Car Tunes about a month ago. I told them I wanted to get a backup camera installed, and I wanted them to take a look at some of these issues I was having with a system they installed. I described the issues to an old man who was having trouble understanding what I was complaining about. Once he understood, he said, “That’s normal. Nothing we can do about that”, and I thought, “Really?” I told him I’d appreciate it if he could inspect my system for defects. It seemed to me that the old man was taking the “easy way out” for everything. My appointment date came around. At the shop, I explained that I had an appointment for a backup camera install and I started explaining the issues I was having with my system. The old man started to get visibly frustrated with me because I was “speaking too low” and was on the borderline of getting hostile with me because I “insisted” on speaking too low. A younger tech came around, and I went with him to my car. Inside the car, the tech was dubious. It seemed obvious that he didn’t think much of what I was complaining about, but he told me he would take a look. Before I left the shop, I asked the tech to examine the balance of my system, because I thought it could sound better. When I returned, I asked the tech, “So, what did you find out?” and he looked confused. I said, “The white noise. The balance of the system. The entire system cutting out at loud volume.” He explained to me that the white noise from the tweeters was normal, and if I didn’t believe him, I could “go to [his] car to listen to [his tweeters], because they’re 10 times louder than [mine].” He didn’t investigate the system cutting out either. I was immediately disappointed. However, the tech assured me that he looked at the audio levels in my car to make sure there were no glaring issues. At this point, you might think that the tech was correct, and that all those issues are “normal”, and I didn’t need to get anything “fixed” – but that’s not what disappointed me. What disappointed me was the fact that he didn’t investigate any of the issues I complained about. The employees at Car Tunes that day were interested in one thing: extracting money from me for the backup camera. They were not interested in investigating issues, or maybe educating me on why constant white noise from tweeters is 100% normal, they just wanted money. They wanted the “easy way out” of every issue. It was obvious to me that they have zero respect for their customers, even someone like me – who has spent north of $5,000 at this shop over the years. It pains me that they don’t value me as a customer, because I grew up valuing them as an installer. They didn’t ask me if I was satisfied with my audio. They didn’t care. They already got my money. I got in my car and checked the levels on my system. I couldn’t believe it. He just changed everything to “Flat”. He hit 1 button on the interface and called it good. To summarize, I’m extremely disappointed, and I won’t be shopping at Car Tunes again. They’ve lost their love of the craft and now they’re just chasing dollars. I cannot recommend enough that you avoid spending money here. You’ll get more respect and results by shopping...
Read moreWe went in to have a stereo and waterproof cover installed in r boat, and because we had purchased the stereo elsewhere, the male owner, threw an absolute fit and told us that because we didn't buy one of their overpriced stereos, that he wasn't making any money on the hourly installation rate. He expected us to return the stereo we bought elsewhere, that had everything we wanted on it, including a wireless remote, and expected us to buy a stereo from them instead that didn't have any of the options we wanted, and no remote, and was going to run us $75 more from them, just for the stereo alone, and then another $100 to be able to add an after market remote. Also we took r pick-up truck in to them to see if they could run a new adapter from the back of the truck's electrical, for our boat trailer to have proper working trailer lights, and they accepted. At which point, there installer, Luke, proceeded to completely destroy every single wire to the trucks rear brake system by cutting every bit of extra length off, leaving several exposed wires, causing a severe short, that ended up costing my self and my wife over $200.00 because he blew up the anti lock brake systems computer module that literally runs your entire abs brake system, by arcking out wires by leaving wires exposed at the rear of the truck, so that when we back our boat trailer into the lake, to unload boat, the raw wires, were submerged into the lake. As well as he added a beat up pre used wire harness, that we didn't want, and that was broken to begin with, and even when Luke realized it was junk, he still left it wired in, non operable, and cut so much of the trucks brake light system wires off, that now we r having to take it elsewhere to have the damage they caused repaired, And to have the horribly jumbled mess they left behind 're done altogether, because now we have no brake lights, no signals, no emergency flashers, and no running lights on the truck itself whatsoever. After way overcharging us to begin with when we took truck back to show owner what his employee had done, Luke came out, didn't even look at damages, got rude with my wife, and refused to do anything at all to fix the problems that he had created with his shady work. Now I completely understand why they are so slow all the time. It's because they lack the knowledge to be doing this kind of work in the first place, and they r causing more damage than they r doing good! I don't know how they r even still...
Read moreThey've done work on a stereo install years ago as well as remote starts, and I've had to have all their work redone. The wiring alone always looks like a rats nest. However, my daughter was leaving in 2 days back to college and her radio went out. Needing handsfree for her travels and not having connections where she was living, I succumbed to Car Tunes being the only ones to help. (And I called everyone I knew first). First, the shop stinks of cigarettes! Absolutely fifthly and the air was incredibly thick (they actively smoke inside the offices). Short and sweet - way overpriced and the technicians don't explain a thing. It's very obvious the men there aren't a fan of a strong willed woman, but no surprise there, as they weren't the last time I was there. Her stereo was installed in 40 minutes (we spent almost $900 on a fairly simple radio and the install). After completion, none of her handsfree buttons were programmed on her wheel, her custom installed stereo system wasn't balanced, and they never hooked her speakers into the radio. The radio was set to another language, and they didn't give me the box with instructions. Thankyou Google! I called the day after and got the run around by a woman answering the phone, the promise of the technician to call me, and zero followups. I called back and the woman said the tech told her that the stereo wasn't compatible with the steering wheel buttons and they never give the customer the product box. (BS, cause I did have someone else program her wheel just fine - the technician was just in a hurry to "go home and die" his words, not mine. He kept saying he was tired when we were there, at 1pm in the afternoon). I don't trust their work, I've seen their work first hand, I don't like their attitudes, I've been at the receiving end of their attitudes, but - I knew this going in, and I even told my daughter I was dreading the experience. They were the only ones that could install a new radio in the 2 days time I needed (but didn't hesitate to remind me they did me a "favor" by getting me in that minute.... So there's that, I guess. Never would I have them install a custom stereo if that's what you're looking for - a quick fix, possibly - but wear nose plugs or insist they conduct their business outside the smoky office, keep your expectations low and plan on having their work redone by someone else...
