Karen's Hallmark Shop — Local services in Castle Shannon

For the past several years, I’ve dropped about $500 each Christmas buying ornaments and various items at this location. No more. The owner and manager are quite nice IF you are lucky enough to stop in while they are working. But as one of the posters said below, the hired help leave something to be desired. On at least three occasions over the past year or so, I’ve been denied the use of a coupon that I would have no problem using had the manager/owner been there. First they denied to give me a free item I had earned through my Christmas Ornament Club membership, then they denied a coupon because they claimed those 3D pop-up cards they sell didn’t count as a “card” (despite the fact they say “card” on the back and come with a mailing envelope). Recently, they refused to stack a coupon for me, despite the fact that nothing was in the fine print about not combining (which Hallmark always puts in there if you can’t do it) and despite the fact that the online website for Hallmark let me stack the same coupons.

So, with the above in mind, I’ll be spending my money at another Hallmark location in the future. The one on Rt. 19 in McMurray at Donaldsons Crossroads next to the Giant Eagle has treated me much better - I suggest going there if you have the option (the one at South Hills Village isn’t all that great just because of its...

Spent $70 on a beautiful lantern for a good friend’s funeral showing. Took one off of display to give us which would have been ok if they would have dusted all the dust off of it and checked the batteries. The batteries had exploded on the inside from age. I spent over an hour cleaning it to remove the acid that leaked into the box. Wife left a message asking for a return phone call and still waiting on one. Hey you remember that movie Inception? This place is like the Inception of card stores. They have cards. You turn the aisle, more cards. You try to find your way back from the maze of cards, and guess what? MORE CARDS. If you can't find the card you're looking for here - it doesn't exist. By the time I came up for air from all the cards, I was certain - either I have vertigo or someone must have dosed me.
