I have lived and worked worldwide for over 38 years, only about 18 months ago migrating back to the US to be near our daughters, their husbands and "Grandma Magnets". What a joy to live here in Roanoke, a Big Little Town like we grew up in. After over 30 years Asia-wide, I had become accustomed to negotiating prices in any store, which is seldom accepted here. But I do compare pricing a lot and customer service more so. I have always known that the lower overhead for website retailers allows them to discount a bit over "walk in" stores. I recent was in the market for a Grand Seiko limited edition watch that is literally "sold out" in 90% of retailers for same but found it at Finks Jewelry. And it wasn't marked up like some watch retailers do on limited editions. The staff and especially the store manager, Ms. Keisha La Pradd, were very professional, focused on my requirement and went out of their way to find it at one of their other stores. And, they were not pushy to sell it. I bought the watch and love it! About 6 months ago, I inquired about a no date Rolex Submariner. We all know the horror stories of trying to purchase a Rolex from an Authorized Distributer these last 2-3 years. Keisha agreed that almost all want one with a date. So I put my name on the waitlist thinking I'd be very far down the list and may never be called. She told me that if a no date model came in, I'd get the call as the only one wanting that model. We'll, I got the call ten days ago and purchased it. She knew it would be a "hand me down" for my local son-in-law, and not an attempt to purchase and resell on Chrono22 for 60%+ over the purchase price. Her word to call me 6 months ago was her bond! And recently, I was in the market for an 18K gold Renaissance Bracelet from the David Yurman collection. She had one in stock and it was listed at the exact same price that the David Yurman webpage was selling it for!! I purchased it knowing she had not marked it up over the MSRP. I always prefer bricks and Mortar with good customer service and honest business principles over those discounts on the web. Face to face interaction are invaluable to a customer, as you start what may be a long term business relationship wherein sincerity involved in the equation. And, you always have someone to come back to if a problem develops after the sale. I must say that the down to earth customer service at Finks Jewelry is unparalleled, very sincere and friendly without any push to purchase and with a "can-do" attitude. Do yourself a favor when in the market next for a nice watch or jewelry for someone special and visit Finks Jewelry to compare to wherever you have visited first. Ā Ā Ā Read moreI want to preface this review with the disclaimer that I am in the jewelry business as the owner of a local shop. Fink's is an iconic establishment here in Roanoke. Many generations of locals have frequented this shop out of loyalty. Unfortunately, unless you fit their idea of a valued customer (white, wealthy,etc.) you will not be treated with respect by a specific secretary and her manager. On two occasions I have come by to get an item authenticated. Both times I was met by a snarky secretary who proceeded to give her UNWANTED and UNWARRANTED non-expert opinion concerning my items. Upon walking into the store, she stated that my Rolex, which I was bringing in to get authenticated, was fake and not worth spending money on. I stated I still wanted it checked and she answered, "Fine, it's your money." When I returned the following week, she was sure to greet me by saying " Your Rolex is fake and your receipt is coming out." I was saddened to hear the news, but as she was about to hand me an envelope with my receipt, the appraiser took it from her. He asked why I looked so upset and I stated that I just found out my watch was not authentic. He said, "What do you mean? I've got your authentication document here. It's real." When I confronted the secretary about it she denied having told me the watch was fake and scurried off . When I brought this to the attention of the female manager, she just laughed and shrugged it off. As a dealer, this ordeal could have cost me several thousand dollars, but it did not even garner an apology or even an acknowledgement !
On the second occasion ( I know, why did I give them another chance?!) The same hateful receptionist met me as I wanted to have a pair of Tiffany earrings appraised. Once again she said "These are testing as moissonite." Which I knew not to be true because i had already tested them and they were high quality diamonds. She then said that she needed to clean them.( once again, not her area of expertise!) When she returned she said'" These are salt and pepper diamonds and are too low quality for Tiffany, there is no way these are Tiffany, they are not worth appraising."THEN, she went on to tell me how I got ripped off buying the earrings! I had enough at that point. I asked to speak to a manager. As I recounted the story, the manager would only try to schedule the appraisal and not EVEN ENTERTAIN my complaint against her employee. At one point she conferred with the secretary and chuckled. VERY VERY unprofessional and rude. I will never go back to Fink's for any reason again and I will make sure I tell all of my contacts in the local jewelry scene about my experiences there.
