Jim Jenson showed us the shop by appointment, and my five boys were very impressed! He was the real deal. His pockets were filled with rocks he had picked up or been working on. He showed us some silver lace that he was planning to turn into a necklace. We got to see how the equipment works, how sharp the diamond bands are on the sanders, and he even shared with us some of the general areas where the rocks we were seeing came from. My son had brought a large piece of obsidian, and Jim chipped off a piece to demonstrate how to start flintknapping an arrowhead. So cool! My kids were in heaven. Since they have monthly club meetings and expeditions to find rocks, we're hoping to be more involved despite the long distance we have to drive to get there.
