I really just need to stop setting myself up for disappointment by coming to BBQ joints in Utah. Having lived in Texas for 12 years, I have become completely spoiled.
Let me put in some good news. The establishment itself has good atmosphere and the staff was extremely nice.
Now for some critiques. I got the Texas Two Step sandwich for $18 which came with a couple small pieces of dry brisket and some sausage. I was informeded that the jalapeno sausage wasnt available and it was only 4pm. Oh well. It also came with a side which I chose the mac and cheese and came as a small scoop. The sandwich aside from having dry brisket, was such a small portion. For 18 bucks, I should definitely be satisfied if not stuffed. I was neither. The Mac and cheese was decent.
My wife got the brisket and pulled pork with baked beans. When ordering brisket at any good Texas BBQ, you are typically asked if you want the slice from the moist or lean side. This was not asked but she ended up with a slice of the moist. She did say that she liked it. The pulled pork for some reason had salt and pepper sprinkled on it. If pulled pork was great, it wouldn't need that. The baked beans were passable.
My main issue for sure was the portion sizes for the price followed by mediocre food. I hate to sound so harsh because the people of Utah seem to enjoy what is here. If there was a way to magically transport some of the BBQ places I frequented while living in Texas to Cedar City, the people here upon eating it would probably go into convulsions due to taste sensory overload.

Read moreWe were really looking forward to trying this place, but unfortunately, it fell short in several areas. The portion sizes were surprisingly small given the high prices. My husband and I each ordered one protein and one side, plus an extra side to share, and we both left still hungry. Theres no menus posted on the wall, Instead, you have to wait in line to look at a paper menu. While our food came out within two minutes of ordering, something we’d normally appreciate, it was clear the speed came at the expense of quality. The sides looked like they had been pre-scooped hours earlier and left under a heat lamp, resulting in dried-out, crusted-over servings. While the brisket and sauces were good, the mac and cheese was barely a few bites. The bread was just a plain, unbuttered slice that looked like it came straight from a bag of Great Value sandwich bread. Nothing about the meal felt fresh or worth the price. We were in and out in 15 minutes, not because of efficiency, but because there simply wasn’t much food or anything worth staying for. I could walk across the street to Hermie’s and get a bigger, better meal for less money with better service. This was a frustrating and...
Read moreI can’t even say enough about how amazing the food is here! I had only been to their original location, which I love, but this one is so easily accessible. The restaurant is gorgeous. Such a great vibe. The staff were so sweet with us. I swear they could read the mind of my fourteen year old… she says to get the Mac n cheese as a side. Not to brag, but I met one of the owners. She is so gracious and kind. She said her hubby loves to make the best meats in the world, and she was right! (Okay- she didn’t say the world, but she is super proud of his Smokin’ skills.) Go to Fire + Smoke for an amazing date… the drive...
