This place is on its last leg. I expected that due to reviews but our expiration was still...odd. Last min trip to see my son at college left few options. I'm fairly difficult to completely discourage so we gave it a whirl. Cost....cheap. sometimes you get what you pay for...sometimes you are surprised. This time...2 star dying hotel was a "you get more than you payed for" not good though. Jack is the lady that runs it but not owns during the day. She should have her own motel! She's great! And is legit the one keeping this one going at all. Days inn owners out there with better facilities....this is your manager. Runs, cleans, cooks, launders, all with a great attitude due to conditions. She can't do it all herself but is definitely trying to float a sinking ship! I booked through direct wyndham site. Everything was fine at check in. It was myself and two sons age 14,18. Two double beds. Clean and welcoming. Old motel they enclosed catwalk into halls. So floor to ceiling windows and a step up into room. Windows very old and dirty. We expected a bit of that so I brought my own cleaning supplies. Carpet....dark and gross but no musty smell. Poorly remodeled.. floorboard section of carpet glued to wall and falling. Room had a TV, mini fridge, and a very old microwave that didn't close after you opened it. All very dirty. Wiped never scrubbed. A sitting chair was placed in one corner, and a desk across from that. Air unit ran but severely bad and filter was dirty. No airflow in room. We chose not to shower there or walk around without shoes. The tub caulk is in bad shape. The toilet was leaking but clean. Online stated a pool. There was not a pool. After we were there I looked abandoned it stated we could use the pool next door. When I asked . They looked at me like I was nuts. Alot of disconnect and false claims. Attempt to save a dying business I suppose. But it's wrong to do! After we checked in and I went back to vehicle to gather bags my sons were on there phones in the room. The "nightguy" literally used the master key to walk into pur room! My son almost decked him and I can't blame him. The guy proceeded to YELL at my children about not answering his knock (that they didn't hear with headphones in, totally their right!) My son encouraged him to leave the damn room. I returned hear this and am now ticked off. I march to the desk and (in front of other guests) calmly yet sternly ask why he walked into our room and scared children. He tells me the room wasn't marked as occupied and he was doing a check. I would advise not to leave anyone unattended. I proceeded to clean the room amd windows myself. Because we had no choice but to stay there. I found the missing smoke detector in the drawer. Went to the desk with it requesting a battery due to safety. The guy acted like batteries cost a million dollars. He then pretended to put it in but didn't put it in all the way. I told him "I'm a mom I'll do it myself " I finished it and ran the test to make sure it worked. We were not comfortable at all. We stayed at the restaurant down the road after our college vist and only went back when we were exhausted. The kids slept well. I played closest to the door with chain and deadbolt locked. We left by 730a.m. expired yougart, stale cereal, and waffles. Coffee was hot. This place is really only for road workers at this point. Most of them wouldn't even like it. Wyndam.....if you are going to let people buy and run hotels with your name on them, more needs to be done to standardize and upkeep these buildings. Rated garbage. I rarely say it but.....do...
Read moreMy family and I booked a room at the Days Inn by Wyndham Cedar Falls-University Plaza July 2025 and were very disappointed in our stay. When we arrived the hotel smelled musty and the lobby looked as if it hadn’t been vacuumed in weeks, even though there were vacuums sitting in the open by the check in desk.
As we were walking to our room we had to step over dirty linen that was left on the steps. Once we got to our room we couldn’t believe how dirty it was. There are several photos below to show the state our room was in. The floor in the hotel room looked as if it hadn’t not been vacuumed in weeks and we were afraid to even take our shoes off to shower. We were only given 2 towels, even though we had 3 people on the reservation. I saw house keeping outside my room and asked for 3 clean towels and was yelled at by a different man that I only get two towels. I tried to explain that I had three people staying in the hotel room and the house keeper continued to yell at me in a language I did not understand until I gave him my dirty towels.
The shower was another story. The curtain was stained and dirty and there were strains of long black hair that had been left on the shower wall. It was apparent that the shower had not been cleaned after the last guest had left.
As you can see in the photo below the Kleenex cover was rusty and there was a white substance on the coffee maker.
There were random holes in the walls that were covered in dirt and greasy fingerprints. While I was looking for an extra plug I found a used Q-tip on the ground (photo below).
There were cords all over around the TV that looked as if they could be a fire hazard. Had there been a fire we wouldn’t have been able to use the phone because it did not work. When I told the front desk about the phone not working, they said they would send some up to check, which never happened.
In the morning we went down to where the continental breakfast was supposed to be served. To say that was a breakfast was a far stretch. There was a waffle maker, juice, coffee, a half gallon and of milk in the refrigerator and 2 options for cereal. There was no fresh fruit, no eggs or protein of any kind.
There were several other hotels in the area that we could have chosen to stay at, but chose Days Inn by Wyndham because of the reputation we thought they had and the photos that were advertised online. The photos online do not represent the hotel that we stayed at. After this experience we are sad to say that for our future hotel needs we will be looking somewhere else and will not be making recommendations for this hotel.
When I called to complain about how I was treated at the hotel, the receptionist told me I would not be getting my money back because I should have said something prior to my leaving. After being yelled at by man about towels I did not feel comfortable going to the front desk since he was the same man who had checked me in at the beginning of the reservation. I also made complaints about the phone not working and no one came to check on the phone, so why would I think that my complaints about the state of the room would be answered. I emailed Wyndham's customer service on Saturday July 12th regarding my complaint and the photos attached and did not receive any...
