The only thing I can take issue with here is the smell from the nearby landfill. However, that’s to be expected and it doesn’t always become apparent depending on where the wind blows.
The staff here is very diligent about keeping the trails well maintained and the hikers safe. They have friendly and helpful demeanors that make this place worth coming back to.
Hikers have two different trails to take to the summit. While not the most strenuous of trails, the incline can provide a challenge to those unused to moderate exertion. On the other hand, it’s great training for those preparing for running competitions.
The view at the top is pretty cool, being able to see lots of downtown Cedar Rapids, particularly the Alliant Building.
It’s also the site of the relatively new Mt Trashmore Challenge (climb to the summit 140 times within the season). The challenge offers prizes that can be redeemed in the Czech Village and Newbo Market.
