I've been coming to the gem shop for almost 30 years now. It's a hike from where I'm coming from, and takes some planning. Always look forward to it, and always leave with a few hundred in treasures. Well, today was completely different than every other time. I was treated so rudely by an employee with rusty orange hair who was dressed like she just got out of bed. I couldn't believe the unprofessionalism of this employee. Well, she just cost the Gem Shop a lot of business and a decades loyal customer. I will not return while she is still employed there. If that was my experience with her, how many others don't say anything? Left early, disappointed, and for the first time ever, empty handed. Just disgusted at her behavior.
UPDATE: Visited a shop in Ephraim, WI called Door County Rock and Gem. There is no where else in the whole of the Midwest that can hold a candle to this place. Don't know that I'll ever return to the Gem Shop after seeing this place and interacting with their...
Read moreI was beyond excited walking into this store, but then the employees informed us of the downstairs AND outside. I haven’t seen my son light up like that in a long time. We could have spent hours checking out the different rocks. We had so much fun looking at everything. It was more than just a shopping experience, it was a chance to bond with a teenager who seems interested in very little these days. The staff was super helpful and informative. Read moreEdited First visit I felt like an addict let free in an evidence locker.... My wallet was a bit thinner leaving. There are by the pound unpolished stones in the basement. Second visit, purchased a rock tumbler. It's running now and by xmas we will have shiny rocks. Edit 9/29/2020 The tumbler has been running nearly nonstop since purchase. We have polished stones from Michigan Lakeshores, Wisconsin, and many we've purchased from The Gem Shop and other places. I've also gotten friends addicted to the fun.
