I've been to this vet twice for my dogs' yearly exams and both times were pleasant. This is why they get 2 stars and not 1.
Their most recent annual exam was July 2023. My dog daycare requires yearly distemper vaccinations even though the vet does them every 3 years. I did not ask for this at their most recent annual exam so I scheduled a vaccination appt for them. At the appt once we were roomed, the receptionist tells me the vet will be in to do their exam soon. I told the her they just had an exam 2 months ago, it is up to date and was normal, we have no concerns and only need vaccines. She told me they still needed an exam but didn't say why. When the vet tech came in, I asked her why they need another exam, and she says she has no idea. Then she takes my dogs in the back (which is a huge red flag- just do the exam in the room with me). So the vet comes in (my dogs are still in the back) and he starts talking to me about general health recommendations; I stop him and say "yes I know we went over all of this 2 months ago and their exam is up to date so why do they need another" and his response is he doesn't know, he just does what's on his schedule; but now knowing they were up to date he states they did not need another exam. He was very nice and said he would talk to the manager for me. The vet tech finally returns with my dogs and says they will only charge me for one exam. I suppose this is better than nothing but the manager didn't even have the courtesy to talk to me and I still got charged for an unnecessary exam.
If an exam was necessary, that should have been communicated to me when I scheduled the visit. The receptionist and vet tech should also be able to explain why it's necessary. Regardless, it wasn't and this was likely a shady way to make more money. I doubt this is a liability thing as they had JUST had a normal annual exam. Also, they could easily just have me sign a consent form which they did not.
The two vets I've have the pleasure of seeing were wonderful, helpful, and knowledgeable. It's a shame they work for this...
Read moreMy husband and I have been very satisfied with the care and treatment our cats have received by the doctors and staff - most of the time. However, the clinic makes it very difficult to obtain flea medication! In Washington State, where we previously took our pets to an excellent veterinarian clinic; when our pets needed it, we could stop by the clinic request the Revolution (flea treatment) for our pets, and we would be able to purchase the medication during that visit. At the Ocotillo Animal Clinic and Pet Resort, we called two hours before we decided to drive to the clinic. We were told the office would call after the doctor wrote the prescription. Pressed for time, and needing the medication, we went to the clinic even though we had not received a call. At the clinic, the staff at the desk informed us that the doctors were busy with patients, and might not be able to approve the disbursement of the medication for 24 hours. We were very disappointed. Clearly the doctor's priority should be with the patients who they were seeing; however, it is not a lengthy process to 'get' the medication we were requesting out of a cabinet or drawer. It does not need to be made up and put in a tube or vile by a doctor or technician. It is already packaged by the company, (in this case Revolution), that supplies the veterinary clinics. The office staff or a technician could have easily obtained the appropriate box matching the weight of our pet. We would have been willing to wait for 30 or 45 minutes for the doctor to be consulted between his scheduled appointments to give his approval for the technician to fulfill our request. This, however, was not resented as one of our options. We are trying to be proactive. We do not want our pets to come down with fleas. Fleas are very difficult to get rid of, and more importantly, can make a pet extremely uncomfortable. We understand that a doctor may need to give his/her approval for medication for pets seen at the clinic, but not that it should take a day to approve of flea...
Read moreWe are new residents to Chandler, Arizona with a sweet little Yorkie-Papillion. We felt we had done our research on Veterinarians and had high hopes that the Ocotillo Animal Clinic & Pet Resort would check 3 boxes for us: a good Vet, Boarding Facilities and a Groomer. We were told that we needed to be established with the Vet (even though we had up to date records from our previous Vet) in order to use their Boarding and Grooming services. So we got an appointment with the Vet and were told to fill out an application form online in advance and receive 50% off the initial visit and bring in a fecal sample for testing. The rest is a long and sordid story but needless to say we filled out our form and got an automated confirmation of its receipt in our email but upon checkout they claimed to not have received it. I stood in front of the receptionist (who was very nice . . . I believe her name was Rose) and forwarded the confirmation to her. (She did give us the discount). We arrived at 8:20am for an 8:30am appointment and my husband was taken back to a room at 8:25am (only one person was allowed in the room with the pet). At 8:55 he came out and said to me in a loud voice, "I want to let you know that no one has been to the room yet". There he sat for 30 minutes with an anxious panting dog. The nice receptionist, Rose, said, "Hasn't a Vet Tech been in there yet?" She ran to find someone. The Technician came in, did not introduce herself (no one wore name tags), apologized for the delay. My husband handed her the stool sample and she said, "Oh, you want us to look at the sample today too?" My husband said, "I thought that was your requirement". (BTW - This is a charge as well to have it tested). The Vet finally came in and was professional but I think my husband was so taken aback by the lack of attention prior to her walking in the room that we will never return to this Animal Clinic. This was an...
