Despite a relatively average retail experience, my friends and I were passive-aggressively accosted by security whilst trying on sunglasses and hats in the women's department of Target. We naturally assumed that this was because we had a black-looking guy with us.
A few minutes later, one amongst our group noticed that her phone was no longer on her, so we retraced the other areas in the store which we had traversed, (which included the sunscreen isle because it's sunny as balls out here), while calling it for an possible aural clue. Finding naught, we walked to the "Guest" Services desk and inquired if the phone had been found by an employee or another "guest." After a nice young Target employee paged the store, we foisted onto his unwilling person an alternate number to call if the phone was turned in as he moved away, clearly contented that he had fulfilled his duties with this twenty-five second interaction.
An hour later, my friend was able to use an app to track her phone via GPS it was still in the store, praise God, so she called the Target in question. After being “disconnected” once, she was transferred to “Guest” Services, where the guy she talked to grilled her on the details of the phone they currently had in custody, including pretending it was an iphone (hers was not) instead of having her come down to make sure it was hers by, say, asking her to unlock it.
At that point we assumed that the Paseo Lindo Target's “Guest” Services had had the phone the time we inquired in person, yet denied it because they thought we were attempting to gank a free lost and found item because women guests aren't worth their time (or again, because of assumptions about the sort-of-black dude with us).
Next time I'll buy on Amazon, since they don't seem to racial profile too much, plus you can't loose your phone in it. If I ever go into a Target again, I'll be sure to have my Asian friend in my entourage so we don't seem suspicious.
The sunglasses I bought there are boss, though, so I'll give my...
Read moreI am deeply disappointed in Target’s decision to backtrack on its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). As a Hispanic customer, I have always appreciated seeing efforts to uplift and support diverse communities, but now it’s clear that Target is more concerned with appeasing critics than standing by the very people who have helped build their success.
For years, Target has marketed itself as an inclusive brand, celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, featuring Latino-owned brands, and claiming to support diverse employees. But what good are those efforts if they aren’t backed by real, ongoing support? Removing DEI initiatives sends a clear message: Hispanic employees and customers are no longer a priority.
The Hispanic community is a major part of Target’s customer base and workforce. We deserve to be represented, valued, and supported—not just when it’s convenient for Target’s bottom line. By walking away from DEI, they’re walking away from the commitment to provide equal opportunities, fair representation, and a workplace where Hispanic employees feel seen and respected.
It’s disheartening to see a company I once trusted turn its back on diversity. If Target refuses to stand with us, I see no reason to continue supporting them. I’ll be shopping at businesses that truly respect and uplift the Hispanic community—not just when it’s...
Read moreWe just had the worst experience with a return item for there own delivery service. The lead was rude told me from the start she was talking with attitude. Telling be me I was rude. Even went so far to say I was rude to the other staff. Which actually made me upset. I even ask one of them out side and he said no he felt in no way I was rude she then told me she was the general manager. If that is the case then she needs to learn how to talk to people. Worst thing was this was THEIR ONLINE ORDER I WAS RETURNING DUE TO NOT BEING ABLE TO DELIVEr. She told me they don’t do that. I will never go back there and I will do my best to make sure EVERYONE IN MY CIRCLE DOESNT EITHER. If I had control over delivery driver I would stop them also. I just won’t...
