I wasnt actually able to get my hair cut by her... I never made it that far. First, I wasn't able to speak with her, she prefers to discuss things via email - which I found odd, but lots of businesses are disconnecting from customers to save time these days. Second, she uses Deva products exclusively, which dont do well with my hair over long periods of time, but I figured one time will be alright. Thirdly, I wanted make an appointment for over 2 months from the time I contacted her. I had just had my hair cut and colored and was trying to plan ahead. She wouldn't agree to color my hair until I made an appointment for a cut. At that time, she said I could make another appointment for the coloring. I needed, in her words, "to become an established client". Meaning I would have to make at least two trips to her salon on different occassions. She said she needed to make sure my hair was healthy before she used color. In all my years of having my hair done, I've never had a salon tell me they wouldnt work on my head unless it met "their" standards. I appreciate her wanting to ensure her "product" looks good, but why the hassle? As a service oriented professional, you should be willing to serve your client. I asked if I could just schedule two appointnents back to back for the same day, but she wouldnt agree to it. I found it sketchy that she required so much of a client and made me feel like her goal was to squeeze as much money from me as possible. My experience at Joyfully Curly was amazing! I got my first DevaCurl haircut and from the moment I walked in the door I was given great attention and made comfortable. I was talked to through my entire haircut and wash and given a ton of great information on products, curly hair techniques, and others great facts about curly hair. I came to Joy because my curls seemed to be getting flatter and flatter and after years of bleaching, straightening, and using oily products, my hair really needed some TLC. Amazing cut! Joy specializes in ONLY cutting and styling CURLY HAIR... She took the time to walk me through the process and cut the curls dry. This is the first time in my adult life that I've had a cut, tailored for curly hair, and did not have to fight with the stylist not to blow out my hair. I rarely wear it straight so why would I want to leave the salon not really knowing how my curls fall?
