India Bazar — Local services in Chattanooga

First, it seems some of the reviewers are confusing the grocery shop with the Indian restaurant next to it. India Bazar is the grocery shop, and that is what I am reviewing. I have been shopping in this place for many years, since the owner only had half of the current shop. I loved the place and had lots of respect to the hardworking manager. The produce was always fresh and prices were cheaper than other places. I had no problems whatsoever, until just recently. Like two previous reviewers, I had bought some vegetables from the store and when I went back home, I found they were bad. Apparently they were out for a long time and were not fresh. When I went back to the shop, the staff (which was very rude) asked if I had the receipt, I said I did. I continued shopping and few minutes later he came and told me that he couldn't refund me the money. I asked to speak to the manager, who told me that it's impossible for their vegetables to go bad because they are continuously stocking them. I went to the pin and picked some vegetables that were bad. He refused to talk to me after that and was also extremely rude. It's unfortunate that business owners think that losing a customer or two would not affect their business. This place is absolutely magical to the average Tennessean grocery shopper who hasn’t witnessed the beauty of exotic produce. Fresh. Vibrant. Amazing. And at prices that are pretty low. The employees and manager are gracious, patient, cordial, and friendly. The manager had offered us samples of his delicious red bananas and my fiancée had fallen in love with their dessert-like quality. He was very helpful in letting us know what vegetables we were looking at as most were beautiful mysteries to us. We will be coming here regularly now and definitely,...

Good selection. I buy Chinese eggplants, broccoli, oppo squash, persimmons, white mushroom, Napa cabbage, string beans, bean sprouts, Brussel's sprouts, tofu, etc. here for very reasonable prices. This store is like an oasis in Chattanooga. I saw a small vendor like this in Nashville International Market many years ago. She was so successful that she expanded her business from a stand to a big grocery store (it still carries a good produce selection). Let's give India Bazar more support.
