Discrimination
My husband and I visited this restaurant last night, hoping for a pleasant dining experience. Unfortunately, our encounter with the owner left us deeply disappointed. As a Vietnamese individual, I had hoped for a respectful and accommodating environment, but regrettably, that wasn't the case.
Upon placing our orders - a Pho Tai for my husband and a Bun Bo Hue for myself, which traditionally doesn't include beef meat - I politely asked the diligent and friendly staff if I could pay extra to have beef added to my dish. The owner, standing behind the counter, seemed unable to hear my request clearly. In an impolite and disrespectful tone, he bluntly refused, stating a very loud "NO."
I attempted to explain that I was willing to pay for the additional meat, as it wasn't listed as an option on their menu (unlike many other restaurants). However, instead of understanding or attempting to address the situation courteously, the owner did not even say a sorry world or show his sorry.
Later, when my husband tried to express his gratitude by offering a cash tip to a hard-working young lady on staff (who unfortunately had limited English proficiency), the owner intervened with a discriminatory tone, asking my husband, "What's wrong?"
As a pregnant woman, this treatment left me feeling incredibly emotional and disheartened. I couldn't help but wonder if this discrimination was directed at me as a pregnant woman or as a Vietnamese individual. Despite my immense disappointment, I chose not to escalate the situation at the time, thinking of the well-being of my unborn child. However, reflecting on the experience now, it deeply bothers me.
I have made the decision never to return to this establishment. I sincerely hope that others in similar situations will consider addressing such behavior promptly and firmly, even involving authorities if necessary, to prevent future instances of discrimination and disrespect...
Read moreSuper Pho Grill Vietnamese Restaurant is Amazing! Best Bun Bo Hue ever! Even better than I have had in Vietnam! Bun Bo Hue is spicy noodle soup with different parts of pork but notable for its pork blood. Not so common in Vietnamese restaurants in US. I found this restaurant after extensive research 😀 and someone commented on Bun Bo Hue! Well we had to go. When we got there though, the sign outside said "under new management " . Oh no! Looked in, some Asian customers, so ok-- worth a try. BUT the menu has no mention of Bun Bo Hue! Profound disappointment but we had heard good things about the Pho and its broth so we were prepared to order that but I asked for Bun Bo Hue anyway. The waiter says he needs to check with the chef. We hear excited Vietnamese in the distance and he comes back with a YES. Thank goodness he did! The chef came by to check on me. And smiled when I raved about it. Ordered Cafe sua for me and Cafe den da for husband. Yeah, coffee for dinner because it is Vietnamese delicious coffee! Husband's beef pho da biet (special beef pho) was excellent. My bun Bo hue was off the charts. I did share . some with my husband, albeit reluctantly. Lovely owners and staff. Very clean. What a gem! Feel free to ask for Vietnamese dishes not on menu as I think if there is interest they will try to make it. The chef is very talented. So good! Craving more as I write this!
Lovely people and amazing Vietnamese soups in Chattanooga. I told the waiter they need to put my soup on the menu but he pointed at the pigs blood and said lots folks won't eat it. I am normally not a big fan, but theirs were delicious. I think flavored with nuoc nam (shrimp...
Read moreIf I could give 0 stars I would. I have had Bun Bo Hue here many times but my experience yesterday assured me that I would never come back. It feels like since the restaurant is getting more traffic and customers, they are skimming on the food. The Bun Bo Hue we had yesterday had 2 different types of noodles in it (big and small). The soup tasted bland like it was mixed between different kinds of soup and not like Bun Bo Hue at all. The meat was skimmed so there were more noodles than meat. It's easy to say our experience yesterday was completely opposite of our other visits. When we mentioned this to the manager/front man, he said it was us that were "off", and it was our fault the Bun Bo Hue tasted bad. Then the kitchen just brought out a small bowl of soup and left. When asked about it she said she thought we weren't Vietnamese so she didn't season it right. No one in this establishment seemed to know customer service, one person tried to blame the customers, the other person blamed not knowing the ethnicity of the customers. A good manager would calm the customers down and investigate the situation. It's sad that we were treated like this after coming here so often to support them. They will not be missed. (The first picture was our food yesterday, the second picture was the dish a couple weeks ago. Two completely different...
